And weren’t most of them elected only in the last couple of election cycles? So, they haven’t yet built up the kind of political capital needed to have a shot at Speaker.
Fool me four times and you’re still Susan Collins.
"Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Fool me three times, you must be Susan Collins."– Stephen King

I still think Fake Speaker is where we’re headed…
More then anyone else, George W Bush is the cause of Republican inability to govern.
Bush by showing us how bad both Republican foreign and domestic policy are for America left the Party without any serious policy agenda leaving only the divisive issues of Race, Immigration, Religion, Misogyny and pretty much hatred of other Americans as their only issue to gain votes.
That is Bush left the Republican party without any platform to govern leaving them only with division and the belief in many that not governing should be their goal.
I can’t overstate how bizarre these past two weeks have been. To crib from Obamaworld’s Dan Pfeiffer, electing a speaker used to be like writing your name on the SATs — obvious, automatic.

This paragraph is my nominee for understatement of the month of October.
I still think Fake Speaker is where we’re headed…
That would be an admission of failure to govern. I think they have to pick someone with the normal election process to climb out of this hole they dug.
Wait a sec. I thought Sean Hannity was the House GOP whip. He was acting like it last week.

Am I crazy, or would the sight of some Dems voting for, say, Candidate A, immediately cause many Republicans to necessarily vote against Mr. A?
IOW, the Repubs are expecting Dems to help, but wouldn’t such “help” instantly paint this person “toxic” and cause all subsequent Repubs to change their vote to bounce him?
Well. either her or a Maine voter.
“Adopt, Don’t Shop! Every year, hunderds of GOP Speaker candidates are abandoned. Meet Jimmy, a super cuddler who’s especially good with children. He’s been dewormed and has all his shots, licenses, and paperwork. He’s just waiting for a family like yours to take him home from our No Kill Caucus!”

He did a pretty convincing job of it too… being bad at it and everything

Republican’s heads are so far up their own ass they’ve reached singularity
I marvel at our TPM team’s capacity to fathom the depths of doofus. When the stupid reaches these intensities and its mass concentrates to the degrees it has, only the truly intrepid reporters can hope to survive unaddled. Brava! & Bravo!
Is this some Physics’ experiment we’re watching right now?
This would be a perfect time for the Republican Caucus to try ranked choice . . . nah, what am I thinking?! Never mind.
If we could just call it something else…well they are dumb and desperate.

Not yet, but McCarthy went through what, 15 ballots to get there last January?
I think even the howler monkey caucus knows they can’t afford to be without a Speaker when the CR expires on Nov. 17. They may still want a shutdown just to own the libs or something, but they’ll need a speaker to front it. They already got their pound of flesh throwing McCarthy out. That may be enough for them to bury the hatchet and find a consensus candidate.
I still think Fake Speaker is where we’re headed…
Well with Donnie still out of jail/prison/home confinement, any person elected as the Republican Speaker of the House will always be subordinate.

This is why I think Fake Speaker still happens. It will allow government to go on, then toos McHenry like they tossed Kev for doing keeping government open…
Then they can unite behind an obstructionist blowhard when there is no real work left to do this term.
