Senate Unanimously Votes For Resolution Demanding Whistleblower Complaint

I believe unanimous consent doesn’t require an up or down vote - it passes only if not a single Senator objects to the resolution.

“The Senate on Tuesday unanimously passed …”

"The Trump administration has refused to allow Congress to see a whistleblower’s complaint "

What the Republicans are not cc-ed on the complaint already?

Is their president holding something back from his own people?

Well that doesn’t sound good.

Non-binding or not, the fact that #MoscowMitch allowed this to go through without his usual stonewalling means that they know the jig is up.

Likely the whistleblower’s direct outreach to Congress turned the tables…

I am cynical. I think McConnell is convinced he can spin what comes out.

If McConnell allowed the vote, it has to mean he’s seen the whistleblower complaint. That could mean it’s completely damning and it would hurt the R’s even more if they continue to block it. Or, it could mean that there’s nothing in it that we don’t already know. Knowing McConnell, it’s probably the latter, but I’m still keeping my hopes up that there’s more in the complaint than we’ve heard so far.

He’s probably nervous about Trump overplaying his hand

So #MoscowMitch seeks survival over lucrative corruption.

That’s what I saw in this as well.

I don’t think the Senate could vote unanimously on whether to order pizza.

On a lighter note: It’s as if good ol’ John Yoo had this teed up and ready to go at a moment’s notice:

If Moscow Mitch and the Republicans get the WB complaint, will they then say they don’t need to meet with the whistle-blower?

Then, they can provide their own false interpretation and spin with no context from the person who sounded the alarm.

Won’t matter. The whistleblower is testifying to the House.

The most pessimistic read I can bring is that they want the complaint so they can say it’s not a big deal and spin it like crazy. But good luck with that. So maybe you’re right, and I sure as hell hope you’re right.

So they just voted to request the executive branch to obey clear federal law. I can see how not even republican senators would want to be on record against that quite yet.
