Then Obama will “beat him like a drum” should that attempt be made.
My Hegseth end up in the Tidal Basin with younger version of Fanne Foxe.
A job is only stressful if you’re competent and you give a fuck about what you’re doing. Hegseth is a colossal failure on these and every other possible measure.
Horrible.
And yet the women judges and the Bishop show so much courage!
Democrats better make enough of a fuss over the nominees so they can use every abuse the appointees perform in the future to make their case that the Republican party is unfit to even exist. Because it in its present form, it should not.
And the inside-the-Pentagon staff is going to have him for breakfast. He’s so completely out of his depth, without anything even approaching the experience for a job at this level, that I expect he’ll be completely captive to the permanent bureaucracy, which will throw him enough little bones to assuage his orange overlord, but otherwise sandbag any major changes.
In this case, having an unaccountable Deep State secretly running things is the best case scenario.
McTurtle is voting for the fencepost.
Craven capitulation doesn’t even start to describe Ernst. She’s even more spineless than Lil Marco
My overworked brain immediately flashed to the scene in The Death of Stalin with Beria hissing at Vasily Stalin “I know about the hockey team.”
TSF’s first term should have done that, but 9M Dem voters sat at home with their thumb up their ass so here we are.
All of them, Katie.
I would love to be a fly on the wall when the professional Pentagon staff talk about Hegseth. Even if they are right-wingers they will think he is a moron who needs to be “managed.” He will face a wall of disdain.
“Accused of sexual assault, of rampant alcohol abuse, of cruelty towards his ex-wives, of serial infidelity, and dragging with him a paper trail of derisive comments about women serving in combat roles, he seems to have the temperament of a Princeton frat paddle.”
That last is a fine bit of writing. Actually, the whole thing represents the standard of keen isight and fine writing I’ve come to expect here. Really, who needs the NYFTimes?
I’ll believe Collins is concerned when and only when she provides the deciding vote in such a situation.
What I heard tonight is there is a spike in bird flu cases, which has jumped cows and raw milk, and last week the government issued guidance to hospitals on how to deal with it. It seems that this week the President has ordered the government to go radio silent on how hospitals and the public should deal with a possible epidemic of bird flu. Pretending a health crisis didn’t exist at the start didn’t help last time. It won’t help this time.
Has anybody told elected Republicans the truth. Trump is officially a lame duck. They should start thinking about how they are going to survive when he is gone.
Kate Riga and the rest of the TPM staff need it. (Just check the MM and links in other reporting here.) They know how to read the Times critically while benefiting from its extensive repertorial resources. Same with WaPo and the WSJ and other sources they avail themselves of but which many commenters here dismiss.
Collins’ statement explaining her decision to vote against advancing Hegseth’s nomination to the floor was a very strong one, stronger even than Murkowski’s. You don’t have to become a fan of Collins (or Murkowski) to give credit where credit is due.
NBC has broken the news tonight that Hegseth’s not-disparagement agreement with his second wife in their divorce settlement probably explains why she refuses to say in public anything negative about him. Lisa Rubin appeared on Rachel Maddow and was helpful with the legal hairsplitting that gets everyone off the hook re charges of perjury and the like. Maybe not a deal-changer. Even if Mitch votes against, one more senator is needed. We shall see.
