It’s why, for me after this debacle, the GOP shouldn’t be allowed to govern the opening of a paper bag or envelope.
They’ve demonstrated themselves to be worthless.

If that’s done right it can change America for the better. If done right. The Bush and Trump tax cuts have allowed Corp’s to walk away from their obligations to the country that built them. “keeping the corporation competitive” was just jive for handing the corporations money as long as they handed some back to PAC’s and campaigns. We know this. It’s been terrible for America but the MSM has played into GOP BS such that many people think it’s all the Democrats doing. Doing it right does not mean extracting revenge on 50 years of bad policy. It means assessing America’s needs as they are today and then taxing to meet them.
The latest from wapo.
Summary:
The legislation, unprecedented in its size and scope, would send $1,200 checks to many Americans, create a $367 billion loan program for small businesses, and establish a $500 billion lending fund for industries, cities and states.
Things I noticed below.
It would significantly boost unemployment insurance benefits, expanding eligibility and offering workers an additional $600 a week for four month, on top of what state unemployment programs pay.
Offering?
Republicans delayed approving the bill until they can guarantee there aren’t provisions for paid sick leave:
The delay in finalizing a deal came, in part, because aides launched a painstaking scrub of the bill’s text, to make sure that one of the most ambitious pieces of legislation ever attempted by Congress — thrown together in little over a week — actually said what lawmakers wanted it to say.
Senate Republicans were being extra meticulous because they felt an earlier and much smaller coronavirus relief bill, which Mnuchin negotiated in a rush with Pelosi this month, turned out to have provisions related to paid sick leave that GOP senators opposed — but which they reluctantly accepted. Now, they wanted to double- and triple-check Mnuchin’s work in brokering a deal with Schumer, given the enormous stakes.
If Republicans complain about social welfare, you can point to the increase in farm bailout funds by $20 billion … demanded by Republicans.
Final issues included a push by Democrats for a dramatic increase in food stamp benefits in exchange for accepting billions more in funding for the administration’s farm bailout that Republicans have included in the stimulus bill.
This was passed in the Senate, needs to make it through the House now.
edit: forgot to post article link
it;s in there
One of the concessions Democrats said they won in the negotiations was an agreement that the pot of money will be overseen by an inspector general and a congressional panel.
But are we sure Trump will sign it? Pfft! What am I thinking? He can’t read, so of course he’ll sign it. Then he will claim credit for all of it.
Should be out today.
lawmakers and aides were still finalizing the text of the legislation, which is expected to be released later Wednesday morning, according to Eric Ueland, the White House legislative affairs chief.
Until a Dem is in office then it becomes every other word with not a single hit proposed for the corporate welfare queens. But lo the poor or under employed hold onto your ass as REPUGS will be looking for their pound of flesh.
I just don’t understand why we need all this when the country will be “open” (whatever the fuck that means) and everything will be back to normal (ha) by Easter.
Oh yeah … elections.
ETA: But, seriously, I hope this helps the tens of millions who most need it. I know it will help those who don’t need it, too. But, we must take care of the most vulnerable now. If you can, give to any organization that is helping to get medical supplies and equipment, or your local United Way or other organizations that are funding and providing services and aid to those in need.
No argument on this… but remember the bulk of this is going to corporations, until we are certain that not 1 dollar:
I can fully understand why people are anxious about this bill. The GOP will cut off it’s arm to ensure that the money goes to their fat cats.
All of that is prohibited per Pelosi
Nah a Wall Street genius…
after 50 years of paying attention to the govt and politics, I can honestly say the program is always the same.
When the gop has the power, debt, deficits, rules, Law, middle class and poor doesn’t exist and they cry about socialism and communism while ripping the country off.
When the dems do get power back they almost always have to pull the country out of a very deep hole created by you know who.
Suddenly, the gop screams about debt and deficits and the only way to save the country is by destroying SS and Medicare. been the Merry go around I have witnessed for like forever. lol
It beggars belief to think that any person charged with making decisions about public monies–anyone–would even consider 500 million to be doled out at the pleasure of a man who bragged that governors who weren’t nice enough to him would be denied the support they need to keep their citizens alive. The fact that that was even a sticking point is stunning.
I guarantee we haven’t seen the small print on that one!
Here comes the surprise veto…
Our national debt was 19.947 trillion when Obama left office.
Last November it zoomed past 23 trillion. It is now going to exceed 25 trillion.
On the plus side, interest rates on the debt are very low.
This debt will guarantee interest rates will stay low.
That was the first thing that crossed my mind also.
Well that’s how it’s been for most of my life. Reagan busts the budget and piles on debt and Clinton turns that around and generates a surplus. Bush gives that surplus and a lot more to the 1% and crashes the whole show. Obama spends 8 years putting the pieces back together and Trump gives it all away in a 1% Tax Cut. That’s quite a few years there but it still goes on.
Why? No American that was properly informed ( other than a 1%'er ) would tolerate this. But it never stops. The GOP has long gamed their way into controlling how the issue is perceived. The Democrats are trying to control the issue. That’s how.
What are the chances that when they told T that his hotels would not be eligible for relief that he said something along the lines of “I’ll get it from somewhere else.”
