Senate Dems Slam GOP For ‘Trying To Distract’ From Their ‘Extreme Position’ On Contraception

Just shows that women & animals have the same amount of agency over reproductive choices: none.

So of course it started in Texas.

Religious Freedom and Restoration Act is cited again when it goes against “Christian Values”.

So next they will object to women using PP for cancer screenings, and other icky women’s things.

For some, they’ve clearly decided that PP is The Enemy™ and they will create whatever bill of attainder laws they want to try to drive them out of business.

So if the GOP really wants to make abortion non-existent (not going to happen) they have to support birth control UNLESS, the Dems are correct that the current incarnation of the GOP is as extreme as it gets. Notably Alito’s opinion lifted passages from an extreme anti-abortion group

And their dismissive, cynical offer of an over-the-counter contraceptive ignores the fact that there is not just one generic Pill; there are different contraceptives and different formulations due to various medical conditions and sensitivities that women may present. These drugs need to be prescribed by their doctor who is familiar with their medical history.

That, and the fact that over-the-counter means that women would bear the full cost. Any savings Ernst is claiming will prove to be illusory.

Manchin will get another suitcase full unmarked of $100 bills tonight by special delivery from an undisclosed source via a third party intermediary and his support will inexplicably evaporate once again.

I’d almost forgotten that this foul woman was still in the Senate.

This is a black and white issue. Stop confusing folks with science and reality and stuff.

They already tried to ban PP from title X funds in the prior administration (despite the Hyde amendment meaning that federal funds were not paying for abortions)

I learned at that time that PP is one of the largest provider of such preventive cancer screenings in the country

Nope, but history is immediate, so not many will check.

Walmart n other outlets do that (retaining customers > religious dogma), but not many realize this.

that would be commenstruate with their previous positions on the matter

It’s why the Susan G Komin foundation took such a funding hit. They had given money to Planned Parenthood for pap and breast cancer screenings. But when W and his gang were trying to rile up the base, they pulled their funding. Catch me giving the Komen foundation a dime.

The distraction is having Ernst ‘object’ to contraception when she do obviously used it her whole life. NOW she will deny it for others while pretending it’s no big deal and those pesky democrats are trying to take away your rights. There is a word for women like her.

Defeated? (I know she’s not on the ballot this go round)

In addition to pap smears, breast exams, and other exams and tests immediately relevant to women’s reproductive health, PP routinely weighs each woman, measures her height, takes her blood pressure – the routine stuff life that, and the medical staff can alert her to existing or potential health problems and offer medical guidance. (How many women have learned they appear to be diabetic or pre-diabetic at PP, and thence been led to proper care?) If a woman has a question about, say, a weird rash-like patch on her elbows or the funny aches and pains, along with fatigue, she’s been experiencing, she can (and, I assume, often will), ask a nurse or the doctor about that. (How many women have learned they have psoriasis or Lyme disease after a visit to PP – and have been guided to care for those issues?) Ob/Gyns are primary care doctors, after all, and their associated medical professionals also have wide-ranging medical expertise. PP provides women – many women – their only access to health care of any kind. Yes, PP’s focus is on women’s reproductive health, but (like all good medical clinics), PP’s clinics serve their patients’ overall health. PP is especially – vitally – important, of course, to women who lack ready access to other healthcare resources.
