Senate Democrats To Force Manchin And Sinema On The Record

The Senate is regrouping Tuesday, initially slated to be a holiday recess, to complete a seemingly ill-fated push to reform the filibuster and pass voting rights legislation.

I’m just as interested in getting that other 50 Senator block on the record.

The country needs to see the entire roll call of infamy.

No secret ballot. no vote by acclamation or voice vote. I want to see the position of every single one of these bastards, including all of the Dems. This is no place for hiding in a cloakroom somewhere. This is historic and may well go down in infamy.

Sen. Warren spoke about this last night on Colbert. But her focus was on the R’s, getting them on the record, and then using it as a bludgeon in upcoming elections. She seemed truly angry, but I do not recall any mention of Manchin or Sinema.

Holy crap, someone check the thermostat in Hades, please–this University of Oklahoma fan may have found something to like at 'Bama after all!?! :flushed:  :mask:

Nick Saban, the head football coach at the University of Alabama and friend of Manchin, is among the West Virginia natives and sports luminaries encouraging Manchin to pass voting rights legislation in a letter.

Absolutely right.

Imagine that your legacy is gonna be: “Stood up for a point of procedure and disenfranchised millions while pretending not to.” Quel courage!!

It’s not just voting rights but Manchin, Sinema and the entire Republican Cult are voting for either democracy or fascism. Don’t Look Up!

Purely from a political perspective, there is zero rational reason to let the filibuster kill voting rights. It’s purely insane for Sinema, in particular, to do this. There must be another reason. It’s my view that the only reason is corruption. See, also, personhood for corporations, which makes zero sense from any view other than being bribed.

Because she doesn’t want them to use the excuse that “I voted this way because the VP was mean to me”

Manchin & Sinema are very eager to go on record, they can show their paymasters that they are really working for them.

Make her curtsy. That’ll be her FU move to show her displeasure at having been put on the record.

Side note: I’d focus 100% of my persuasive power on the person whose last name begins with “M.”

If they do the vote role call in alphabetical order, Manchin’s name will come before Sinema’s.

Imagine the .001% chance that he changes his mind and votes for a filibuster carveout. That would vastly increase the pressure on Sinema.

From the time it takes to get from “M” to “S,” she’d be thinking, do I want to be the ONLY Dem to vote against this? I mean, probably yes, she’s that much of a narcissist. Still, that would be some high-class drama.

When I saw Mitt Romney’s cowardly bullshit statement last night about the reasons he will not vote for any voting rights bill, it reminded me of who the real bad guys are. Also reminded me that his father was a Republican who demonstrated real integrity multiple times. Apparently Mitt only inherited the hair.

When the Republicans regain power and immediately get rid of the filibuster to pass whatever horrendous anti-human piece of trash legislation has occupied their brains that week (The Ban All Books About Race Act, for instance), I want every reporter in America to stick a microphone in Sinemanchin’s face and ask them to make their speech about bipartisanship again…and again…and again.

This is some sad ass history we are making right now. We are actually fulfilling the Trump Dream of making America Great Again - for white men.

There are a limited number of people who will tie the family dog on the roof of a car, he is special.

They will do that as much as they stick a microphone in Susan Collin’s face and ask her about how Kavanaugh won’t threaten abortion rights. The media can no longer be relied upon to do their job, so I’m not sure what the answer is here.

By then, it’ll be too late. It will accomplish nothing. It also won’t get eyes on the broadcasts or print/digital. Bipartisanship is already on life support. There’s no point in talking about it once it’s dead and buried, which their vote will ensure on this and the other stuff they’re obstructing.

So you agree with @demosthenes59.

To quote Sen Blutarsky, “Let’s do it!”

Oh, I disagree with him about there being zero political rationale.

I might not agree with said rationale…
