So Georgia’s constitution allows the (Republican) governor to appoint a replacement who will serve for three years (to early 2023), with no special election next year?

How Southern!

Edit: The Journal Constitution says that there WILL be an election next year, meaning that both of Georgia’s seats will be up. A real chance for Democrats, if the new election system proves relatively honest.

Gov. Brian Kemp ® will appoint someone specifically selected to be as divisive and racist as he can possibly get away with.

Yet another reason it’s really unfortunate that Stacey was screwed out of the governorship.

How much you wanna bet that he would have stayed the whole term had it been Gov Stacey Abrams appointing his replacement?

Stacey Abrams run for this, please!

Gov. Brian Kemp ® will appoint someone to fill the vacancy.

…and so I’d like to appoint this shotgun to be the next senator from the great state of Georgia.

Just saw on twitter that this means 2 GA Senate seats up for grabs in 2020. I really wish Abrams would reconsider running for Senate.

She could run for the seat.

Kemp can appoint a replacement, but the timing of the resignation means that both of Georgia’s Senate seats are up for grabs in 2020.

The appointee will only serve for a year.

Wow, even I’m not that cold…

There is also a good reason it is called the “Millionaires’ Club.” In 2015, the median net worth of a senator was $3.2 million.

I assume that whoever wins the seat will only serve for the remainder of the term. I expect Abrams would go after the 6-year term if she decides to run for the Senate.

But with the advantage of incumbency. That’s why they made Tina Smith promise to run in 2018 when she was appointed to fill Franken’s seat in 2017.

That’s only what they will admit. Mitch is probably in the 100 millions club if you count all his and his wife’s hidden assets.

No bet.

Well, I don’t mean to be super harsh, but as I’ve gotten older (not 70 yet), I’ve greatly noticed it. Add some gray hair in there and … the world looks at (and treats) you differently.

There will be two senate seats up in Georgia next year. She should certainly run for one of them.
