Sec Of State Vows US Won’t Share COVID Vaccines For ‘Political Favors’ | Talking Points Memo

Zooming in, I would think for a desk that goes for $2700 plus that it would be a better finish including fitting. The leather inserts on the front look to have been dyed or painted a darker color as compared to the catalog photos. But then lighting may have something to do with it. But then I have to ask about that plaque on his desk. It looks like it is something to do with the border patrol. But the structure looks slapped and glued together. Look at the edges. It really is an ugly product for what it is. And lastly, the rattle can, orange peel finish on the desk occupant smacks of an impatient hand in trying to rehab a worn and unwanted objet d’fart that even Goodwill won’t take on donation.

I think you’re right, though I hadn’t really looked that close at it. What stood out to me was the awkward attempt at looking like the President still.

“Ellison’s support of Donald Trump does not affirm Oracle’s core values of diversity, inclusiveness, and ethical business conduct.”

Dear Oracle employees. You work at Oracle. Ellison was a co-founder, owner and has 36% of the company. He has a many decades long history of being an ass. Oracle reeks of Ellison. And you are trying to tell us about the company’s core values as being anything but Ellison’s?

Parts of Houston are sinking up to two inches a year due to excessive ground water pumping. When the aquifer partially collapses, that means it won’t be storing near as much water anymore. But Jakarta, Indonesia is sinking nearly 7 inches a year. They are screwed long term.

Awkward is right. But then it is not like he put in a lot of practice when he was in office. So this is all new to him.

Yes. Google did everything right here, classic “clean room” implementation. (Look up Compaq’s history if you don’t know why this is important.) The only things they “took” from Oracle were the files that specified how you talk to their stuff. That’s the very purpose of an API. If you can’t do that under fair use, it’s not clear what in the modern interconnected interoperable world would survive a court challenge.

And why you want to think very carefully about your success metrics.

The trains ran on time under Mussolini. (Edit pace @gargoyle: So they say.)

I think they are conflating actual core values with the corporate mission statement. I think the latter is a PR invention to obscure a corporation’s actual behavior.

Aren’t they all?

We’re not going to overpromise (it’ll be the best, the greatest vaccine sharing, nobody has ever seen vaccine sharing like we’re going to do) and underdeliver (fake news, it’s the best, the greatest vaccine sharing, nobody has ever seen vaccine sharing like we’re doing…)

New Zealand follows a suppression strategy, as do several democracies.

The US won’t share COVID vaccines for political favors? Has DeSantis signed on to this?

Sure. But most folks, and almost all corporations, don’t conflate that PR with actual values.
