The Supreme Court denied a petition from Special Prosecutor Jack Smith to expedite Donald Trump’s appeal of the presidential immunity issues in his Jan. 6 case.
The Trump lawyers gave the most transparently dishonest possible explanation for why they want this case delayed while the Colorado case should be rushed. And the Supremes are so naked in their abuse of power on his behalf that they didn’t even bother to say why they’re giving him what he wants.
Clarence and Alito just found out they are going on a two week ski trip to Aspen followed by two weeks in Hawaii. They will be staying with "friends " at both places.
I suppose this is a symptom of allowing Judges, who’s comfortable future was granted by the man they are Judging, to rule on that man’s affairs. Human nature is a real.
For what it’s worth, Norm Eisen on CNN yesterday is of the view that the DC Circuit is moving fast enough that, even if the SC waits (as it has now done) it won’t delay the trial all that much, and not past the election. He is confident they will take it eventually.
And, can former presidents be prosecuted over acts that, during a Senate impeachment trial, resulted in their acquittal?
IANAL, so i’m asking here - Are the US Senate actions taken during an impeachment trial considered a Court of Law? If not, a “not guilty” verdict issued by the US Senate would not mean squat in an actual Court of Law. Were charges against Dotard T rumpp filed in a Court of Law that were subsequently determined by the US Senate as opposed to the normal trial procedures prior to his impeachment hearings? What is the equivalence (if any) between the Senate verdict of Not Guilty and a Federal Court verdict of Not Guilty? I’m having trouble grasping the claim of double jeopardy.
