Can’t they, though? The shamisen has kind of a thin sound, so most of the oomph comes from the rhythm section. And that thumb strumming the bass player does is enormously and irresistibly propulsive, on top of all the other great stuff she does. She lives in the States now, Juna Serita, and she tours, FYI.

I live outside a rural town. Good idea. We have a fairly robust local newspaper and several local radio stations. Although the publisher of the paper is a more traditional Republican he gives voice to the far right crazies causing more moderate and liberal readers to quit subscribing. They are quitting the Republican Party as well. But we all worry about the radicalization of those remaining. Scary. BTW Obama won our county by a few dozen votes and Biden by over 900. This was unthinkable when we moved here over 20 years ago.
