Tim Scott just killed any Presidential hopes he might have entertained. There is more than one rhetorical trap out there.
On the finance podcasts, there has been lots of talk this year about how the pandemic accelerated trends in place: working remotely, Amazon as the new retail, income disparity, the death of paper money, the rise of home cinemas, technifying everything. It was all happening already, but 2020 turbocharged it.
Dem and GOP voters were also in a barbell distribution before Covid and now, perhaps because of Covid, (and the terrible Trump response and defeat), the poles are accelerating further apart even faster.
He also said that the Klan is just a friendly social club like the Elks, Green Books were a mistake, and slavery was a great deal for African people.
Golly, when Tim sells out, he doesn’t fuck around.
He would have driven Miss Daisy … for free.
Scott added that there is “absolutely” a “lingering effect” as a result of centuries of racism and discrimination in the country.
Ok…not racist…we will think of another name for the preponderance of black motorists and pedestrians being murdered by police, Asians attacked in increasing numbers, Jews and Sieks murdered in their temples, Trumps happy talk about Mexican rapists and drug dealers, codified suppression of immigrants, openly discriminatory behavior toward minorities, undercounting in the census…you could go on and on…there is no end to the roster of examples.
Meanwhile, courtesy of unpolished fecal chunk Newsweek, this:

And yet he admits to having been stopped 18 times for driving while Black.
What kind of hypocrisy is borne of cognitive dissonance? I am a white woman and I think in my nearly 50 years of driving I have probably been pulled over twice. This guy is half my age.
Of course America is not a racist country.
Tim’s Uncle Tom told him so.
Useful idiot
Uncle Tom
Bad American
Total coincidence! He knows he’s a bad driver!
With reference to Sen. Scott’s mask
4 U.S. Code § 8. Respect for flag
(d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
… … … …
I wonder what the penalty by law is for the Senator’s flag mask.
None.
I’m embarrassed for him. What a weak, weak character.
Or for most of the GQP? And its minions?
Senator Tim Scott is an opportunist - which can be framed as a bad thing - or a good thing - or simply a noun that has to be in context to have a qualitative judgment attached to it.
… which is similar to this debate - which all to easily gets tangled up in semantics.
Yes, it is possible to argue that - Structurally - that by a sterile and un-nuanced abstract look at the bare mechanisms of the governmental framework, the governmental “hardware” of the United States of America is color blind - and in the public sector there are no longer obvious codifications of discrimination - no more counting of non-whites as 3/5 of a person, no specific legal language creating exclusions of individuals simply because of their race or religion.
… and this is where Tim Scott seeks to disingenuously play out his argument
He can argue that the governmental “structure” of the United States of America is no more “racist” than a carpenter’s hammer or a doorknob … or a length of rope … ( and he will avoid discussing any of the connotations or symbolism that the “length” of rope might have in a real-world context)
Tim Scott is unwilling to take this debate into the real world - Tim Scott - to curry favor with the white supremacist masses in his chosen party - will not opine upon the “REALITY” of America he will not objectively discuss the living, organic society in which we live & breathe - he will not discuss the effective disparities that are still present as a result of historical bigoted & prejudiced behavior. He will stridently focus on only the cold structural abstract - not the real world ramifications - because he cannot win the argument in a real world context.
Tim Scott knows exactly what he is doing - and he is essentially rationalizing that he is just arguing the case like a member of the debate team - he comes across like has a position to defend - and defend it he will … but ultimately, his argument rings hollow - and disingenuous … and he probably knows this - but he rationalizes … and what the hell - he is getting his! he is seizing his opportunities - so screw the rest …
He isn’t married. He’s got some Lindsey Graham/Troy McClure vibes if you ask me.
If Biden gets the infrastructure bill passed, then I think Scott seems set up to be the ideal sacrificial lamb candidate for the GOP in 2024.
On the narrow focus of “America is not a racist country,” I agree with Scott. We are not a monolith and as a group, we’re not racist. We’re not non-racist either. We contain a very unpleasantly large number of really malignant racists, but the country, itself, is not racist.
O/T but really??? No wonder they can’t have hearings of Big Tech
