Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said Wednesday that President Donald Trump should make an effort to amend remarks he made during the first presidential debate on Tuesday where he told a far-right hate group to “stand by.”
“I think he misspoke,” Scott, who is the only Black Republican in the Senate, told reporters. “I think he should correct it. If he doesn’t correct it, I guess he didn’t misspeak.”
OK reminding myself here that this is political speech, meant to be heard differently by different audiences. He’s telling his Trump-supporting constituents that he’s giving Trump the benefit of the doubt. He’s telling the rest that he thinks hate groups are a bad thing.
Tim Scott is an empty vessel. What a horribly sad inner life he must lead.
I often wonder what it would take, what the breaking point would be for people like him or Thomas or Sowell or whatever to finally have the epiphany that the people they consider their allies want them subjugated. The shackles locking? Bit late for an epiphany then…
Today: Give him the benefit of the doubt.
Tomorrow: Don’t take Trump literally
The Next Day: He was making a point about Antifa
Day After that: Stand by, Proud Boys
