The illness may have nothing to do with the vaccine. First, there’s a 50% chance that person is in the placebo group. Second, if you do a large enough study, particularly if you include older people, as J&J. unlike others, is doing, you can predict statistically that you will see illnesses and even deaths over time, which may be totally unrelated to the vaccine or not. Regardless, you have to stop and analyze and that will inevitably delay the results.
I have this recurring image of the guy in the 9th Gate who thought he had achieved immortality from the devil, set himself on fire, and discovered, oops
The faster the super-spreader in chief and his dead-enders go down, the better. Buh-bye.
Sounds like Mencken.
Well, he did make the distinction that he would kiss “the guys and the beautiful women”, so you also have the potential that he’ll decide that a woman is a “dog” or “not his type” and give her a pass. Bummer for the guys.
The last scare proved to be unrelated and testing was resumed.
As I understand it, the second infection was genetically distinct from the first, suggesting that it is not re-activation of the initial infection. That was also true in the re-infection reported in Singapore. That doesn’t mean a vaccine won’t work, as sometimes they stimulate stronger response than infect. But it is a caution…
First Trump said his SuperSpreader® events were safe because HE maintained a distance between himself and the packed, mask-free crowds. Now these events are safe because HE (allegedly) can’t catch COVID from these packed, mask-free crowds.
I think he’d be of the opinion waging nuclear war was safe for everyone because HE was safely ensconced in the White House survival bunker 100 feet below ground.
Don’t give him ideas!
There have been other confirmed reinfections outside the US and from what I have read, the second bout has generally been more severe, one of those cases (Singapore? Don’t remember exactly and too lazy to research) was mild with the first bout, hospitalized with the second bout.
He proves every single day, over and over again, what an ignorant self-centered asshole he is. Today was no exception — and it’s still early.
A good case could be made that being near a Republican or a Trump loyalist constitutes a heightened health hazard, above and beyond proximity to non-GOPers.
Shunning is a vastly underappreciated approach to these people.
And this also underlines what many/most folks are ignoring: there are multiple strains, and just like flu or colds, just because you got (or were vaccinated against) one strain doesn’t mean you won’t get the other one.
Last year my niece got her routine flu vaccination, but then ended up pretty sick with the “less likely” strain which was not covered by the vaccine…
And there seems to be a fairly widespread belief that you get vaccinated and have lifelong immunity. Which very possibly is not going to be the case.
“Fairway Caligula,” eh?
Even if he wasn’t the Superspreader-in-chief, the thought of him going around kissing people just made me throw up in my mouth.
I’ll kiss the guys and the beautiful women.
That sounds like a threat. I would file assault charges.
Here is the full quote: H.L. Mencken, Baltimore Evening Sun, July 26, 1920.
"As democracy is perfected, the office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and a complete narcissistic moron.”
But who needs a vaccine when jenius donnie has a CURE?
I’m hoping that just one specific case in the U.S. has a replay.
