Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) carried out a series of procedural moves very early Wednesday morning to tee up a new voting rights push when the chamber returns from a month-long recess.
The budget resolution for the reconciliation bill passed in the wee hours of the morning after an all night vote-a-rama, by a 50-49 vote. Schumer achieved his objective of getting the bipartisan infra bill and the reconciliation budget resolution bill out the door before the Aug recess. Now, it’s on to the House. The target for completion is mid-Sept.
Thanks for the update. You know that Poppy Bush always talked about “The Big Mo” **…and part of it will also be the LEO/Justice System arena w/r/t Trump and minions…
The last sentence where Senator Warren stresses the importance of controlling partisan gerrymandering and dark money influence in campaigns is of primary importance. Carve out the filibuster exception for constitutional, ie voting rights, issues Senators Manchin and Sinema.
So what is Manchin’s universal voter ID? And wouldn’t “universal” open it up to everyone on planet Earth and any other aliens that want a say in how we govern?
Sinema and Manchin still bug the shit out of me because I see danger where they see blah. Doesn’t matter who one casts their vote for if the ones counting the vote get to decide the state’s election totals.
“This bill would constitute a federal government takeover of elections,” Cruz said to a nearly empty chamber around 4 a.m. “It would constitute a massive power grab by Democrats.”
Got it, Ted. But it’s okay for Trump to use the Department of Justice to overturn an election.
Last time I looked, both the presidency and the DOJ were part of the federal government.
This election officer is very happy to see Schumer beginning work on voting rights legislation. We truly need that done - my blue state enacted protections but it shouldn’t only be voters in blue states whose voting rights are protected.
