Schumer Says The Parliamentarian Greenlit His Filibuster Workaround. That Could Be Huge.

Trump’s wealth has always been like the existence of fairies in Peter Pan. If you stop believing in them, they drop dead.

This is great news as long as Schumer can get everyone on board.

It’s right there written in plain English and documented in that law from the 1970s. Reconciliation can be used “at least once” not “only once.” There is no way the Senate parliamentarian could twist these words around to please Mitch McConnell even if she was asked to by him. He won’t.

Now I could maybe see Clarence Thomas arguing otherwise, but I doubt the rest of the strict constructionists on the Supreme Court would bother to take up such an appeal by Republicans.

Besides, the law relates to internal Senate operations not state or federal laws which apply to everyone. Appeals to the upper court must meet those kind of standards. The justices don’t waste their time over parliamentary rules in legislatures.

Look at the way that the Republicans are taking bows for elements of Biden’s stimulus bill when none of them voted for it. They will do the same and the GOP propagandists will just have to live with the infrastructure bill in the same way.

The nation is feeling optimistic and doesn’t want to hear anymore negatives from anybody.

Even conservatives are licking their chops thinking about the growing recovery and the related surge in profits it will put in their pockets once Covid vaccinations reach optimum saturation and consumers start to celebrate with their pend up demand.

If the Goobers do not want to pass legislation the country needs and wants then why are they employed? Why have a Senate at all if they will not do their goddamned jobs?
It may be time for a Constitutional convention to reorganize our government.

In the climbing world, that’s referred to as a ‘crater’.

BTW, do those unlaundered Russian assets he’s sitting on count?

I think 25% would be fine if we close most the loopholes and make it a global minimum corporate tax rate.
No more tax shelter countries.

Ryan Cooper also had a few good ideas over at The Week magazine. It’s the main or first article.

Yep, and that’s also why HR1 must pass this year. If it gets passed Dems will very likely be able to expand their majorities in both chambers and pick up a few governorships and statehouses. That will allow us to do other big things.

Agreed. That’s why I’m not particularly worried about losing him on this one. There are other ways to make up the difference to get to the revenue 28% would create.

What we must do is to expand our electorate. Right now, the lull in the Legal Process with Trump (and Crew) coupled with the necessary time it takes to get the Infrastructure Bill passed forces us to cage our bets.

This is understandable.

The summer months should be different.

Yup. When many of the big corporations manage to pay near 0%, doesn’t matter what number you put at the top of the sheet.

The NYT, WP, and others ran this story the other day: (I’m using The Hill because it has no paywall.)

That’s exactly the story (amongst many, just the latest one) I was thinking of.

Can set it at 70%, wouldn’t make a lick of difference without closing all those loopholes.

Adding it all up, last year these 55 companies paid a grand total of negative $3.5 million in CIT.
