Schumer Says He’s Working With Biden To Find Votes For Tanden After Manchin Opposition | Talking Points Memo

Tanden apologized for several of her tweets attacking Republican senators, including tweets calling Susan Collins “the worst”, comparing Ted Cruz to vampires and Lord Voldemort, and using the nickname “Moscow Mitch” for Mitch McConnell.

Okay, now I might have changed my mind because she apologized.

How are any of those tweets wrong?

Precisely. She should have stood behind them instead of apologizing… Ha ha.

We got people to talk shit - I like policy wonks who stay away from the fray. That’s why we pay AOC to be our lead social media influencer and Bernie to be the grumpy grandpa.

If there’s something wrong with tweeting accurate comments that hurt the tender feelings of Republicans, I guess I won’t be getting a nomination for anything…ever!

Well, their party is in the process of splitting into two and somebody is going to end up the leader of the sane brigade. Being seen as able to function in this environment can signal that they can pull back all those “Independents” who abandoned the Republican Party and are living in Democracy-land.

Saw a poll earlier today that 2/3rds of the current Republican party would go with Donnie if forced to choose, which doesn’t leave enough to elect dogcatchers without some pull from the center. Will it work? Who knows, but I personally hope they try - (and fail… “teeheehee”).

Biden is damned if he does (stand up for “comity”) and damned if he doesn’t (stand up for Tanden).

In that case, I’m surprised Benghazi didn’t torpedo her nomination.

There is a history in Democratic politics where Mancin got a green light to vote against the party after it was determined that his vote didn’t matter in the end. .

Joe Manchin: A wannabe King-Maker with just enough deception to look like he isn’t. It-does-not-help that every media talking-head has been all-too-willing to give him currency…about his being “THE ONE” who will/can stand in the way of a Democratic Agenda.

This is the ass-hole (along with Tim Scott) who believes $1400 and any Federal UIB help…is too much for the 15-20 million unemployed Americans.

Biden needs to become an LBJ (for a moment) and call his arse in and call Manchin what he is to his face: “Look here- you sorry MF’er- you’re going to vote you party and vote for my Nominees…”

Democrats are afraid of Manchin and kissing his butt…He’s really a bully but not as evil as McConnell (he wants to me the Democrat’s McConnell). Threaten him and I believe he will back down.

We’ve always known. It is a minor miracle that there is a Democratic Senator in West Virginia. To give you an idea, here is the electoral map from the last election:

The counties in various shades of red are those carried by Trump; the ones in blue were won by Biden.

This is not new. Here is the 2016 map:

And 2012

One has to go back to 2008 (Obama-McCain) for the last time a Democratic presidential candidate carried a county in West Virginia. Manchin has a tough row to hoe and most of the time I’m willing to cut him some slack. People from New York who think Manchin should be more like a New York Democrat just don’t know what the view looks like from West Virginia. They should think of West Virginia as a very large Staten Island with a lone Democratic congressman in the middle of it.

What penalty would he pay for switching parties instead?

That’s a good question. Switching parties to run- would/might get him a strong GOP contender? It doesn’t appear he’s ever had any strong Democratic contenders in his district? The only benefit he serves by continuing to run as a Democrat- is the Democrat’s ability to get/keep a Senate majority…which may be why they endure his JERK-hood. But…continuing to try to work around his unholy-arrogant asss-hole-ness, must be rather depressing for his Democratic colleagues (and the rest of us).
