or who has “given aid or comfort to the enemies.”
Given a political party in power, is it valid for that government to classify the other party as criminal?
American values say “No”.

If Andy Ogles said it, ain’t nothing legitimate about it at all.
He’s not a communist. He is not advocating state control of the distribution of resources. He is simply advocating that capitalism have rules, which makes him a capitalist.
I am tired of people conflating regulated capitalism, and democratic socialism, with communism.
Don’t shoot the messenger please. I’m not saying Mamdani’s a communist. I am saying that the right will not stop at calling him a socialist, but instead will call him a communist. For example, Trump has called him a communist (From CNBC: Trump calls New York Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani ‘a communist’), which is the signal for his minions to do the same.
I’m not shooting the messenger, I’m practicing the response!
Nope.
By Republican standards, those men and women you saw jump on top of Trump during the campaign when he was shot at, and kept pushing him down, even though he was trying to get up and resume his speech?
Those people disobeyed the President’s wishes ; - )
So it would seem, according to Republican standards, that there are people who may legitimately commandeer the President over his own objections. I think Jamie Raskin should have that authority too.
Citizen’s United did this to us.
Good thing he didn’t call him a “commie hippie pinko”, or Mamdani would’ve been done for ![]()
Kinda OT: Virginia has been called for spamberger!
this illegible quote: “I think the future of the Democratic Party is going to fall, as far as we’re concerned, relative to the House Democratic Caucus and members who are doing great work all across the country.”
Jeffries is a great example of what, relative to a horse’s front, is the opposite side of that horse, which is of course a very important animal.
Schumer for sure did.
Socialism is just a word. We can stick another word on it–call it the new New Deal. Point is–when the Democrats were the MOST successfully Democratic, they were “socialists”, and they lifted the nation out of the Great Depression. the ghost of Francis Perkins is smiling today at Mamdani poll returns…
Yeah, TSF stealing part of Intel for the state is more communist than Mamdani.
We need fresh faces and new voices from across the spectrum to fire up and engage the electorate. All together they will make a party and a form of government. We need people with vision to tell us what we can aspire to and others more practiced at putting those visions into statute, even if incrementally. All process people with no visionaries results in stagnation. We need both.
Nicely stated!
The Democrats seem to be at their best when they’re snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Dem leadership is afraid of its shadow and that’s a problem for all of us. These poor entrenched souls have no real fight in them and give lip service to the stakes without backing it up with action. We need new blood and we need it fast.
huffpo continues to predict Dems will cave. thats it, i am finished holding out any hope, or is huffpo engaging in gas light? schumer and Jeffries have never put together effective slap back on repubs. i say stick to your guns you boobs…,and watch the r’s are going to loose it.
Absolutely this. Be gone with them all. Schumer certainly isn’t getting my vote if he is foolish enough to run again. And I’m 60, not some young hipster.
We certainly know who is NOT the future of the Democratic Party, assuming it wants a future: Kamala Harris, Hakeem Jeffries, and Chuck Schumer. And just FYI, Kucinich is a GREAT MAN.
He’s a blowhard and, of late, quisling. The one good thing he did is save Cleveland Muni.
Socialism is not “just a word” to many Latino voters who immigrated from countries like Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaraugua with despotic regimes. Maduro’s political party is actually named the United Socialist Party of Venezuela. The ruling Sandinista party in Nicarauga calls itself socialist, and of course Cuba is classic Communist. Even immigrants from other places are aware of the connections, with America seen as the world’s traditional anti-Communist refuge.
I agree that many of the best things Democrats have accomplished in the past could be labeled socialist programs. Hell, we call one of our major safety nets “Social Security.” But we absolutely do have to figure out a way to re-label progressive politics if we want to win statewide and national elections. There will be more registered Latino voters tomorrow than there are today. Demographics are shifting in this country, and we can’t win without them.
