But what makes you think that a career diplomat is going to defy the Secretary of State?
And now the WSJ has corroborated the NYT story about how Sondland spoke with Trump directly during the 5 hours between Taylor’s “it would be crazy” text and Sondland’s text denying a quid pro quo. This doesn’t get nearly enough attention in the press and is clear consciousness of guilt.
And how much do you bet that Mulvaney himself wrote Sondland’s “crystal clear” response to Taylor?
Taylor definitely has the goods, but my question is what can they do to this guy if he testifies? Can they screw up his pension? Besides the smearing and putting his life in danger, what other strings can Pompeo pull to hold him back?
Which would be true. Trump couldn’t even spell quid pro quo, let along understand what them foreign words mean.
He is 72, and has not spent his entire life in the employ of the U.S. government. He’s made his bones, and getting fired by Trump would in no way be a black mark on his legacy. Quite to the contrary, it would probably enhance it once the long arc of history rendered its judgment.
Hadn’t thought of it that way.
Now I’m going to have nightmares at night (in addition to the ones I’m already having in broad daylight).
Then again, so is Pompeo.
Ladies and gentlemen, Matt Gaetz, Florida Man and the Bizarro World’s answer to Stephen Hawking, gives us a quote for the ages.
Funny, I never knew this was where the term “kangaroo court” came from:

The Banana Man was sheer genius.
“Is that a banana in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?”
Others have pointed out that “crystal clear” is a phrase that Mulvaney often employs.
Depends on the crystal, some are totally opaque.
He’s in league with the arch villains, Mr. Rogers and Handyman Negri.
Yeah, well, putting his life in danger can be an attention-getter. But maybe by being 72 he already figures his life is pretty much over anyways so what the fuck. Or, on the other hand, maybe he’s normal.
Along with ‘You can’t handle the truth!’
House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA) indicated in an interview with the Washington Post Tuesday morning that his committee might be interested in hearing from the U.S. diplomat who objected to what appeared to be a quid pro quo during the early stages of the ever-evolving Ukrainian scandal.
I’m sorry . . . “might”?! How is this not the next guy on the list?!?!
You suggest that if he hasn’t come up with a workaround, he should get out. I don’t see your suggestion for a workaround anywhere in your comment.
Dems control 1/2 of 1/3 of the government. They’re doing a pretty damned good job of it, considering that everything is stacked against them, and the ‘other side’ will cheat in any way they can. Meanwhile, the Dems have to play it by the book, or they lose any moral authority, which, honestly is about the only weapon they have just now.
If you think you can do a better job, jump right out of your chair and run down and help. I’m sure the GOP would welcome you. I get that you’re frustrated; we all are. Criticizing the good guys doesn’t help anybody.
I’m sure he is.
These things need to be in a court, sooner rather than later. On the day, preferably within the hour. of a voluntary witness deciding he or she is no longer voluntary, they should be found and served. The speed with which they find themselves holding a subpoena should be breathtaking. So far, not so much.
My man! I knew he was secretly reading TPM!
