Which is one of the many reasons not to vote for Republicans

I can pick it up later and have to leave now, but one question about reading the room is these polls I keep hearing about saying 60% of Democrats think Biden is too old. I am not one of them, but is Adam Schiff misreading the room? @tpr

True and these are an apples and oranges comparison. Trump is an adjudged felon and openly highly corrupt. Democrats like this, cough Bob Menendez, are asked to step aside, or a way is found to remove them. Joe Biden is a highly respected Democrat, with successful policies as President to run on, the presumptive nominee, and several critically important segments of the Democratic party still support him. As part of the Democratic leadership, it is Schiff’s job to support him.

Hell’s Bells… Look Trump is a convicted felon 34 times over. One would think that in a rational reality this would be more than sufficient to kill a chance at getting elected to any office ever. And kill a career in politics. But we are talking republicans of 2024 and they will elect criminals to office if they can.
What the hell am I missing here?

TRUMP IS A CRIMINAL A FELON …CONVICTED…IN COURT

He ought to be the one who quits the race…not Biden.

I note that the market was down today (erased all of yesterday’s gain). Yesterday, when it was up, Fox Business suggested it was because Trump was going to win in November. I don’t suppose they’re suggesting today that Trump is going to lose in November.

That was a completely bogus online poll, but true to form Huff Post want to throw it in their headlines.

Yeah, when was the last time one of the two major parties dumped the candidate who had won all their primaries because he was behind in July?

No if he has cause I would prefer to hear of it. Now that is said, I think it will be hard for the rest of the party to remain silent.

My guess there must be one hell of alot of Dems in Office who are thinking the same as he is.

We should know soon who is who.

Biden damaged himself. Anyone pointing out the damage is hardly to blame for Biden’s performances in multiple venues these past several months. The debate remains - and will forever remain - one of the worst political debacles we’ve seen in decades.

And let’s be fair to Schiff. As a Jewish American who has been one of Trump’s chief antagonists he has an enormous amount riding on this election. A Trump win could mean his freedom, if not his life, is at risk.

If he has concerns, there are far better ways to frame it that would do far less damage or perhaps none at all.

The bottom line is that Schiff predicts an outcome that is very much uncertain and does not drill down to any root cause issue, which, I have to conclude, he is actually oblivious regarding. If I was to list the least helpful, and the most damaging approach, this would be it. For example, if he has a problem with Joe Biden, call Joe, make the case.

I just cannot figure out how Democratic politicians can in unison really give up their agency to affect the election towards a positive outcome so irresponsibly.

I think this is one of those “asking the wrong question” polls. Too old compared to whom?

I unequivocally support Joe Biden and will vote for him without hesitation. His age will not deter me. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t have been happier voting for a candidate with a little less mileage.

But if your revenue stream depends on click-bait, nuance is antithetical to your bottom line.

Raise the Torch, Joe!

Well yes he could go to Biden, and I am willing to bet he did and Biden ignored it. I am also willing to bet others have also gone to Biden and have made private suggestions to him, and Biden refuses the suggestions.

This kind of information has been leaking out slowly over the last 3 weeks and Biden chose to ignore it.

So now it is in Bidens hand again. What will he do?

And LBJ stepped back from running again.

Maybe on tv.

But no, no, no. The nomination of Trump comes to mind as a Party debacle. The Bush Mideast War decision. The Presidential shrug over a nation dying from COVID.

No. Not nearly one of the worst. Maybe worst rated tv episode.

You are not wrong - Biden is just not coherent enough to make a case for himself. If you know how to read polls, they are terrifying. Biden is down a couple of points, and running 5 - 10 points behind D senate candidates. Even worse, many of the polls in whuch he is down 3 to 4 points, respondents claimed they voted for Biden by roughly +5 in 2020 (which is what he won by).

I would frame a question to address this point as the following, what did Schiff hope to accomplish with his statements?

  1. He is not discussing his concerns with people that can address his them.
  2. His concerns are going public, and that has consequences. As a politician, he should know that it could backfire on results on the Presidential election, incredibly obtuse not to think so.
  3. So may be he thinks of this as a “Hail Mary” pass. Ok, but he owes everyone a bit more.
  4. May be is afraid of loosing the House and the Senate. The Senate is in a tough cycle and the House is gerrymandered beyond belief. So somehow he must think there is a candidate whose coat tails could be ridden. Well if so that falls into being strictly oblivious.

Biden is not too cognitively impaired to

stand up for constitutional democracy, v Trump who tried to overthrow it, and has promised to do so again.

stand up for Ukraine, v Trump who has promised basically to give it the blood-drenched tyrant Putin, and thereby also give Putin hugely enhanced sway over our democratic European allies

take decisive action against climate change, and promise to do more, v Trump whose plan to “drill baby drill” may give a death blow to human civilization

promise to expand SSecurity and Medicare, v Trump whose party wants to slash or eliminate both

promise to restore full reproductive rights to women, v Trump who wants to strip them away and make women especially when pregnant into 3rd-class citizens.

promise to raise taxes on plutocrats, thereby helping fund an active progressive govt, v Trump who wants to steal from the poor to give to the rich and promises to burn down every last vestige of progressive govt

And so on. We don’t seem to be able to keep our eyes on the ball.
