Realistically, you are correct that a Republican is going to win the gubernatorial election in Arkansas. But surely there are politicians in that state who also want to be governor.
Yes, she has family connections and name recognition, and even an identity from her time as press secretary.
The question—in Arkansas and in many states—is whether the seditionist, pro-Trump Republicans will win, or whether other Republicans will assert themselves.
Going to be nasty in places like Arizona, and other states. Dems are stuck hoping that the Mitt Romneys and Liz Cheneys and the Raffenspergers win, not the seditionist Qanon crowd, which I think includes Huckabee Sanders, functionally, since she is a Trump acolyte with heavy ties to white evangelicalism.
I am sure there are. But she has the backing of the state party already. And, like I said, she has been working the state hard for a couple of years now. All of that makes it very difficult for any up and coming republican to buck the state party and run against her, especially since there is no way they are going to be able to match her in the fund-raising game.
I would take issue with your comparison to AZ. Arizona has elected a Dem for Senator in the past 2 election cycle. Kelly is going to be favored in the '22 election cycle, too. They currently have 5 out of 9 Democratic Representatives. 17 State Senators are republican vs. 13 Dems, but the House is 31 R v. 29 D. Arizona is trending blue every election cycle right now, and is building up a bench as a result.
Arkansas is not. Both Senators are republican, all 4 Representatives are republican. Senate is 26 R v. 9 D and House is is 76 R v. 24 D. So not just republican majorities, Super majorities.
One of the USA’s poorer states. Large swaths of it are farming / ranching on a small scale and blue collar time card punchers. Hard hit by Covid too. They’ll probably elect this serial liar as she melds well with the brainwashing Real Americans have suffered since Reagan. More power to them…enjoy!
Absolutely! I think she wins ‘going away’. After all, this is Arkansas we are talking about: the only state that Okies could look down on in confidence!
Just when you thought the late night comedians were going to have to actually go back to work for a living without Trump to tweet their nightly jokes for them, along comes Sarah, running for Ark Gov.
Who’s next? Governor Gaetz?
The comedians got it SO easy cuz of Trump!
She is exactly what is wrong with the Republican party. She is a communications flak by trade without any semblance of ability. She is being promoted by shadowy money and her equally useless father. No principles, no understanding, no real concern for anybody, but a lot of talk radio glib.
The lawsuit notes that while Giuliani spread falsehoods about Dominion being owned by Venezuelan communists and corrupting the election, he did not make those claims in lawsuits he pushed on behalf of Trump.
In other words, “Rudy, you’re well and truly fucked.”
dr_coyote: with all due respect, I think you are wrong here. As I replied to sickneffintired, this is Arkansas we talking about! The normal rules of time/space do not apply…
You raise a good point. And @sickneffintired does too, and I don’t know the state’s dynamics. But I was actually thinking more of a challenge from another, hungrier, younger, and (let’s face it, b/c this is the GOP of vapid surface impressions) prettier fascist-wannabe than she is.
And I refuse to assume the Stacey Abrams/GA model is irreplicable elsewhere.
And that is precisely what defines and unites them, being butt hurt over their imagined and unmerited race, culture and ideological privileges being threatened–like a rapist having the cops called on him.
