Santos Insists Very Loudly It Was His Decision To Step Down From Committees – Not McCarthy’s

As long as he can.

Where’s his birth certificate?

And if he were to resign tomorrow doesn’t he still get all, the retirement and health benefits that someone who has been a member of congress for decades gets? There is something very wrong with that.

He gets nothing.

No, a member must serve 5 years to get vested. George has been in office shy of 2 months.

“I want to personally thank Speaker McCarthy for meeting with me to discuss the matter and allowing me to take time to properly clear my name before returning to my committees,” Santos wrote in his statement.

And what name would that be?

I am not sure what name applies to this cyborg

That’s still pretty generous. I worked for University of California and our retirement system is considered pretty good compared to others but no where near as generous as what members of congress get.

Nobody tells me what to do.

Except, sometimes, Anthony Devolder.

I’m not sure that’s true, I checked his resume… it says he’s been a member of Congress for just short of 25 years, now.

TPM is turning into the “J-14” of George Santos features.

Even after 5 years he won’t receive benefits until age 62 when and if he retires.

McCarthy attaching himself to Santos is going really well, I see.

The Santos chapter has been a boon for Dems because McCarthy willingly embraced him and he’s part of the GOP identity now. Many campaign ads are going to make some reference to him to brand the GOP.

Yes, liars, cheats, grifters, frauds, election deniers. Anything else?

Stepping away from the committee assignments is a start. Now, George, take that next big step.

Same here. There’s no conflict of interest inherent in his committee work that does not also apply to him making floor votes. He’s just not going to show up to do most of his job.

Also, I think this recusal kabuki is because it’s politically untenable for Qevin to call for a floor vote to remove Ilhen Omar from her committee while Santos is still going to his committees. Santos, of course, will vote to remove Omar. He ain’t recusing himself from that.

The University of Arizona system is joined with the state system and it is also generous for me which i am happy about after near 40 years there.
