2020 candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said on Sunday that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is being a “little bit” too hard on progressive House Democrats such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
No Bernie, as usual you are wrong or deliberately deceptive
Nancy is not “harsh” on the “squad” because they are trying to bring WC people into the party. Show us an iota of proof where Pelosi has said that. What a load of crap.
The origin of this dispute is in the migrant bill which has nothing to do with WC. To Bernie who only has a hammer in his toolbox, everything is a nail.
Pelosi is upset because AOC’ COS wrote that a native American lesbian member of Congress is racist because she voted for a bill that vast majority of the caucus voted for. He singled out this particular congresswoman who also happens to be the person that AOC opposed in the primary campaigning (along with Bernie) for her opponent who was a white guy.
Bernie wants us to conveniently forget these facts by gaslighting us with this WC nonsense.
I have no respect for Sanders, but he’s right on one point. Pelosi should simply say that Democrats, unlike Republicans, accommodate a range of views and do not march in lockstep while mindlessly parroting leadership approved talking points. Don’t feed the “Democrats in disarray” meme, play it as the strength that diverse opinions bring to a democracy.
I don’t mind the advice (within reason), but someone (it won’t be Todd) should ask him if he has any regrets about not coming back to DC for that McConnell bill vote.
It’s a pretty mild response from Sanders. He’s not in attacking mode this election (yet), although justice democrats are already at war with Dems. Guess he doesn’t wanna get his hands dirty this time.
He knows he’s already on thin ice and slipping down. He’s kind of confused about what to do, and if there is one thing Bernie doesn’t do it’s change to deal with a new situation. Remember, he didn’t get so far in 2016 because he is a great political strategist, he just lucked into the right moment.
The Democrats under Pelosi and Schumer passed a bill to give Trump $4 billion to spend on more concentration camps without any conditions.
Then Pelosi decides what is most important is to criticize 4 representative who are also women of color for speaking out about the wrongness and immorality of this bill.
When was the last time she criticized the “blue dog” Democrats?
Pelosi is a horrible person. She is bad for the country, bad for the Democrats, and particularly bad for the immigrants being held in American Concentration Camps.
I think those women singled out by Pelosi are representing their communities.
For example:
AOC’s district:
[Median income] $58,331
Ethnicity:
18.41% White
11.39% Black
16.24% Asian
49.80% Hispanic
0.45% Native American
3.71% other
Looks working class to me
Pelosi’s district
[Median income] $111,711
Ethnicity:
“A little bit” is a pretty measured response, and it pretty much reflects my own feeling about Pelosi’s role in exacerbating the dumb Pelosi - Squad dispute – she’s being a little bit too hard on them.
I also think they’re being a little bit too hard on her.
I don’t think either “side” is way out of line – to me this seems like pretty normal intra-party squabbling. Unhelpful, but not some huge “Democrats in disarray” crisis, as it’s being portrayed in many media accounts.
Meanwhile, Trump would obviously like to stoke the divisions, but due to his ham-fisted, racist Tweets this morning, he’s probably done more to unite the Democratic factions against him. Once again, his malfeasance is underminded by his incompetence.
The spat delighted conservatives, who expressed their glee at the eruption of blue-on-blue infighting. Chakrabarti, meanwhile, fired back and accused the caucus account of taking his tweet out of the context of a conversation where someone else brought up Davids.
“I’ve known Rep. Davids for a long time, consider her a friend, and encouraged her to run for Congress back in the fall of 2016,” he said. “I’m glad she did.”
“Everything I tweeted 2 weeks ago was to call out the terrible border funding bill that 90+ Dems opposed. It gave Trump a blank check to continue caging people in horrendous conditions. Our Democracy is literally falling apart. I’m not interested in substance-less Twitter spats,” Chakrabarti said in a follow-up tweet.
Much more to the story. Do you support that bill? Good for them for speaking out.
We’ve also been the “big tent” Party, meaning we accommodate a range of views from the relatively conservative blue dogs from red areas to the Progressives from blue areas, and there’s always going to be some inherent tension between the two sides.
What is perhaps different is we have the yin of unprecedented racism and inhumanity of this Administration that needs to be balanced by the yang of strong progressive voices, with the Democratic establishment leadership caught in the middle.
Interesting. On March 19th, AOC discussed mounting primary challengers to moderate Democratic Reps who voted with Republicans. On March 22, Pelosi’s DCCC announced that they would blacklist any political consultants who helped primary challengers to incumbents.
See how this works?
Pelosi is a horrible Democratic Speaker of the House.
