Sanders: I Have ‘No Problem’ Going To WV To Push Manchin Toward Progressive Goals

A totally red WV certainly raises an issue but is that issue that we should not waste time there or perhaps focus more effort there?
I’m not ready to call WV a lost cause. It very well might be but that is not certain in my mind.

I don’t, when you take into consideration his definition of the “progressive agenda”. Raising the minimum wage? Sure. Installing a national health plan while destroying health insurance, essentially overnight? Not even close.

So, Biden went from winning WV in the Democratic primary in 2016, 51-36. He lost in 2020 65-12. Democrats got just slightly above 25% of the vote in 2016, and slightly below 29% in 2020. Putting that in perspective, he got roughly half of 1/4 of the vote in 2016, and so that decline to about 10% of less than 1/3. TLDR; Bernie doesn’t have much influence in WV, very few Democrats do.

It’s a fair question and I don’t know the answer. What metric do you suggest?

I will say this: Some of Team Biden’s more progressive appointments and policies give some reason for hope.

Same here.

How much of that red is due to GOP gerrymandering?

See? This is why no one asks you to define the progressive agenda.

I’m talking about the armchair prognosticators on TPM and elsewhere.

I know you were expecting it, but so sorry.

I got that, but would still like to know what general metric one could use.

He’s going to need an in state surrogate to help him there.

He cant rely on either 2016 or 2020’s results, because the state remained red.

There might be one or two prominent guys who could help and who needs to say something.

I didn’t see the interview but I suspect that Sanders was answering a provocative question. He didn’t say he will go…as I understand it, he expressed his own political, and perhaps misguided, courage about coming here to WV

Is this some kind of joke?

I have only one metric. Come down on quasi-Republiucans like Manchin who go against the Democratic platform like a ton of bricks.

I did not remember where you are.

Montani semper liberi!

I find it interesting that some people, and when I say some I mean a lot of people treat their chosen political party affiliation like it’s a religious denomination. And the more fervent they are with their party identity the more fervent they are with their religious dogma.
Not I’m not naive enough to believe that there aren’t people using religion or politics to gain, or maintain power, but they play game so well.

I wonder if Bernie talked to anyone in the VW Democratic Party leadership?

OT.
Hope this becomes a trend. It’s long overdue:

In fact, WVa seceded from the Confederacy. So they’ve got that going for them.
