A co-chair of Bernie Sanders’ (D-VT) presidential campaign denies that the Vermont senator intended to “trash” Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) with a campaign script shared with volunteers.
Ah so they deny the “trash” comment that Warren made but, don’t actually deny the script?
“she knows that he would never do anything like that so when she says he sent out his volunteers, nothing could be further from the truth.”
But they don’t deny the script?! They even say it’s OK but, Warren is a bigger meanie for even thinking Sanders would do it?
Sanders will not be the Nominee. I am more concerned with the Aftermath.
Sanders long disturbing history of trashing his opponents with lies follows him and his spokesperson also has a divisive history.
Bernie camp says it never happened. Warren Camp won’t comment. Interesting development.
“Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to throw as much shade as possible on Bernie’s opponents. Should you be captured on video or recorded, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions.”
There is something adolescent about all of this.
It’s like the Brits saying to us, in 1942, “If you hurt our feelings, you can’t come and play.”
CNN just broke a story saying Sanders told Warren during a private sit down a woman couldn’t win the Presidency. The timing is certainly interesting.
Don’t doubt Bernie is trashing Warren. Isn’t that politics?

Honestly, the Sanders campaign is just not very well-run. They had good results from the Selzer poll, and spent the weekend crapping all over that.
And if this is how they handle a little more scrutiny, well, good luck as the nominee…
Not when Bernie himself said he never would trash Warren…which, technically, I guess is true: his surrogates do.

Bernie: all identity politics, all the time.
She even seemed to catch herself in the middle of it. “Well, you know, voters should identify only with candidates who have support from people who are like them and should resent candidates who have supporters whose identities are not like their own.” That’s what it was all about…not only an attempt to “call out” Warren supporters for being only rich, affluent, educated people, but also branding her as such too, so that people who are not would be put off by her and her supporters for who they are…“others”…not what her policy positions are.
When Sanders decided to run in 2020, there was a primal scream of anguish here at TPM.
