Russians Intensify Shelling Of Ukrainian Cities As Nation Pleads For Help | Talking Points Memo

It’s also reporting that he says he’s donating the proceeds to victims of the war.

I actually think he’s bluffing – but that doesn’t mean I’d operate as if we could be sure of that. So in advance, let me say I’m not proposing we test his resolve.

It’s just quite pathetic that he’s got such power over the West.

Putin is behaving more and more like a loose cannon, and we can’t trust that he’ll keep his finger off the nuclear trigger.

That’s not what I would call power over the West.

This is nothing new for Russia, command control and logistics have always be terrible. In WW1 it was a major reason for the collapse of the Russian army. In WWII is was not all that much better, lots of aid from the west. My late German MIL told me about being happy when the bombers came from the east since so many of the Soviet bombs were duds.

Can Paul Manafort be reached for comment?

Sorry, but it is. We can be Churchill or Chamberlin, deGaulle or Petain. But we can not be both. The Ukrainian people just need our unconditional support and Putin will lose. And this is not about waiting on the Russian people to rise up. This is about the West taking action ourselves to put an end to Putin’s constant land grabs by nuclear threat. This is in our hands and we need to act now, not hope for Russians to act. So Western leaders need to stop being so prepared for defeat and start preparing for how to emerge victorious. Putin has lost to anyone who has the vision to see it.

I just love that. It warms the 44% Finnish blood that runs in my veins.

Net proceeds, not gross. So he might take a haircut in portions, but basically gets at a minimum a massive write-off in taxes, and whatever else he has for expenses along the way.

Full-on confiscation is the road to go down, and the British parliament is debating just that stuff today, with Labor asking why the russian-owned Conservatives seem awfully squeamish about hurting the purses of their owners.

Believe they’re mostly rhetorical questions, everyone knows why.

“Russian Ambassador Claims To UN General Assembly That Trump Was ‘Overthrown”

That’s an interesting take, but I don’t follow how you wouldn’t call that power. He’s doing as he likes right now and we can’t stop him.

If true Putin ain’t gonna be pleased.

No worries, folks.

The United Nations General Assembly overwhelmingly voted this morning to reprimand Russia for invading Ukraine and demanded that Moscow stop fighting and withdraw its military forces, an action that aims to diplomatically isolate Russia at the world body. That means that they will be sending members of the UN Peacekeeping Detail (the “blue helmets”) to Ukraine, right?

52 Ukrainian peacekeepers have lost their lives while serving with the UN peacekeeping operations elsewhere in the world. Just an fyi.

Does that list include “The Rights of Man” and “The Age of Reason” by Thomas Paine?

Perhaps also “Valley of the Dolls.”

Hell, who knows what he’s even being briefed? For all we know, he’s been told that Kyiv fell three days ago, that russia controls everything East of the Dnieper river, and all with minimal losses.

Great. Now the orange maniac will go on yet another “all about me” word-spewing bender. Granted, it’s all he ever does, but I was getting used to the longer gaps between his public excursions.

Well, that seals it. Off to GITMO with Biden and Harris.

Feeling pangs of this myself. Of course, tempered by the fact that I’d be comically useless to them and the last thing that would be helpful would be my dead body getting in their way. So, donations seem like the best way I can help at the moment.

We can’t stop him with our military.

We are crippling him at home—and in his wallet—with sanctions.

His oligarch buddies have lost around $83 Bn in private wealth so far, and it’s only been a few days.

Exactly that… and it is called by Putin “deNazification”

We can. We’re choosing not to.
