That stalled forty-mile convoy should have become a 40-mile highway of death. They had an opportunity to set those tanks & APC ablaze or laid IEDs to destroy them once they were on the move again. I fear the next two to 3 weeks are going to be horrific.
Question: “What is the difference between a ruble and a dollar?”
Answer: “a dollar.”
A few more years of global warming and heat pumps might be the way to go here in VT. The gov’t has been trying to convert Vermont homes to the ductless heat pumps - you end up with a 4 foot wide fan up near the ceiling in every room at $5000 apiece. Unfortunately, heat pumps, even the cold climate ones, are not up to the task here. They are really inefficient once the temperature drops to near 0 F, and can’t keep up once it goes below -5 F or -10 F, so you still need another source of heat for when it really gets cold (plus our electricity is about $.20 per kwh - pretty pricey. If everyone switches, that is only going to go up.
I hope heat pumps in Europe are a bit more efficient and practical - like they are in our southern states.
Yes. I hated the Army and camping out.
How does Putin plan to govern a country after he has bombed its hospitals, schools, residential areas, and evacuation routes, killed thousands of civilians, and driven millions of people to seek refuge beyond its borders?
It’s a lot better when nobody is shooting at you.
Putin will simply model Ukraine after his successes in Chechnya, Syria, and breakaway bits of Georgia, etc.
After fishing with my brothers I would have to qualify that as “mostly” not shooting at you.
Still great fun though.
You could say the same thing about high school in the USA.
Much of Ukraine’s success so far in this war is ascribed by many observers to Zelensky’s morale boosting presence and words. Putin certainly feels the same on some level. So killing or capturing Zelensky has to be high on his priority list. You have to wonder if Ukraine could continue to hold out so well if Zelensky was off the stage. And question how enthusiastic the U.S. and its allies would be in supporting the current government if he was gone.
I have had a heat pump for about 20 years now. Living in TX it makes sense. Every home has air conditioning, the difference in price is livable. Winters are not that bad and the system keeps up pretty good. I have run it at 0 degrees, grant you it is not real warm and it runs 24 hours, but hell it runs 24 hours when it is 100 degrees.
Russia is arresting leaders in the FSB.
That’s the rumor and if true, how long before Putin is coup’d?
Corporatists in hot pursuit of other corporatists’ asses to kiss.
As Josh said in the Editor’s Note on the free pass given Trump for colluding with Putin to undermine the NATO alliance and help Putin take over Ukraine:
It would be as if in the aftermath of 9/11 Richard Gephardt or perhaps Al Gore were in a terrible bind because they were the co-chairs of the U.S.-Bin Laden Friendship League or ran a nonprofit focused on training the next generation of al Qaeda airline pilots. But somehow bygones and all that. It really is pretty much like that.

I’m sure this was the plan all along, right?
In possibly related news, lotta sales of apartments in Crimea by connected folks, apparently.
Maybe they think that otherwise those might be confiscated or no longer exist pretty soon…
