Too right! Evangelicals are looking for superiority. They insist that they are the “chosen ones” who will sit at the right hand of god and lord it over everyone else whom they and their “god” have consigned to hell.
It is an easy sell to people who know that they are life’s losers. I have met too many of them to have any respect for their claims of holiness and righteous living.
It is not important what Jesus said it is important what Graham said Jesus said.
I guess in the eyes of an evangelical like Franklin Graham a good murderous butcher is one who waits until the baby is born before he blows up the maternity hospital.
Oh fuck god already. If he existed, which he doesn’t, he wouldn’t allow this, and spare me all the logical sleights of hand trying to explain why he would. If you believe in THAT god then fuck you and your fucking psychotic beliefs.
God is us, and what we do and don’t do, and the matter and energy in the universe and the physical laws governing them. Period. There’s no clock maker, no clock winder, no clock fixer. There’s just the clock, and we’re part of it.
As for the man who would be god (or Satan), how is Putin different from every mass murderer who takes out his deranged and evil rage against others by murdering them, other than the scale of his murder and the means at his disposal to do so?
Having grown up among the evangelicals, I’d offer this nuance to your take: most of them manage a neat trick of acting like righteous and superior assholes while simultaneously convincing themselves they are acting with utter humility and service to God.
Wait, doesn’t Jesus consult with Graham every day, meaning that Graham says what he told Jesus to say?
You have to admit that every culture through the ages have sought out or invented some sort of supreme being. It seems to be the ultimate refuge of people who just cannot be responsible for making compassionate and ethical decisions on their own.
Amen to that.
Well it did make sense way back, before anyone understood how things worked, and it can be comforting. But so can Santa Claus to a small child, and we do have science, a LOT of science. So basically, these days, if you still buy all this shit, you’re either not educated, soft in the head, or just plain stupid. There is absolutely no rational basis for a belief in god, any god. It’s just an affectation by those who know or should know better, and a crutch for everyone else.
O snap!
Only when Graham is on drugs.
Is he ever not? I mean that little blue pill, Godagra…
It’s a test, like any test of basic humanity, that they are failing
But it was not always so. Once upon a time, American evangelicals saw the Soviet Union and other communist countries as the world’s greatest threat to their faith.
And once they had no problem with abortion. They’re not exactly models of consistency. It’s either that, or the God with whom they claim a personal relationshi, just can’t make up his mind about what’s most important.
Indeed!. I was sent to a Roman Catholic girl’s school for the first 8 years of my education (long story…we lived where county schools were no good) It was clear to me as a 7 yr old that religion was a giant scam, and god was never going to get his hands on the dimes extorted from me to keep me out of purgatory
( which funnily enough has been abolished by the church since my days of incarceration).
My irreverence for organized religion has stood me in good stead for over 70 years.
Churches want to play the politics game, then they should pay.
TAX THE CHURCHES!
As long as Putin is not giving Ukrainian women free or forced abortions evangelicals are fine with him.
Religion has always operated on three levels to attract and hold people: Explaining the natural world, social control, and promoting an afterlife to alleviate fear of death. Science has replaced the first one for many people, but the other two are still powerful attractions.
I know parents who aren’t actually religious but they raise their children in a religion because it provides a social control framework they think is positive for their kids. It beats having to come up with a system of moral behavior from scratch. Fear of death can become a powerful thing as one gets older and realizes that they’re not immortal. So it’s not just being uneducated or stupid, but yeah, “crutch” describes the rest of it.
Are you nuts? How are they going to afford the Bentleys, Learjets and Harleys that are expected of them? Everybody knows that Jesus himelf rode the best ass in all Judea.
Wait a second! According to my fundy relatives JC rode a Velociraptor into Jerusalem!
