Yep, with the Hunter story falling apart, they’ll have to pivot to something else to satisfy Trump’s desire for a Biden impeachment in the election year. But what? Maybe the messy Afghanistan pullout, although that doesn’t quite fit the high crimes and misdemeanors tag.

This whole ‘spy v. spy’, counter-intelligence gathering thing with Russia (or however one characterizes it) that has continued to feed Republican legislators information about Hunter Biden directly from some unvetted, made up shit, is rather mind-blowing in its scope. It was like a direct pipeline into Congress by a bunch of unquestioning and willing Republicans intent on already trying to smear Hunter as a way to affect the 2024 election. (In some ways this is Rs doing what they tried to do with Hilary and Benghazi all over again only with a lot of Russian help.) That this Russian interference and the lies continued for years without being exposed and made public is also very disconcerting. But these Rs never had anything substantive on Hunter Biden, a small detail that never once stopped them from pursuing him, to get to their desired conclusions.
Its “but her emails” on steroids, new and improved with a Russian accomplice and guidance. So the Russians are at it again in real time. Not in the past. They are here to stay, trying to stir up chaos into our 2024 election. Most of us already know this. The fact that the mainstream media (or what’s left of it) doesn’t bother to make this a bigger deal is what’s so disappointing. They were always going to continue to get more involved and use other assets to accomplish those goals. Putin is waging a new Cold War. No question about it. We, as a country, should act like it, if only we had Rs in our Congress that knew how to grow a pair and realized the stakes.

How many abused women stay with their abusers? How often do you hear, “But he really loves me.” They seem supportive of that sort of behavior in our population because they’ve seen it modeled for millennia. It’s not surprising that they’re supportive of it on a larger scale. You’re are supposed to fawn on your abuser. It seems like a risky move to slap around your partner, but experienced abusers really seem to know how far they can go.
On the flip side, I’m wary of this latest round of Russian Follies. They are not doing this to benefit Democrats. I think in addition to knowing that their submissive partners will take it, they want to provide rebuttal ammunition against the increasingly obvious subservience of the GOP and Christian right to Russian State Security organs.

Totally OT again (sorry, but questing for good news is my thing): last night the Mrs. and I attended a concert by the Arizona Trio. Three guys who once performed with the New Cristy Minstrels and the Kingston Trio put on a great show! It was fun. They did the Irish Rovers Unicorn piece, the Boston MTA piece, etc. A significant difference, I suspect, was the relatively sedate audience, many of us having lost much of the hair we once displayed, and the absence of that peculiar fragrance that used to grace the atmosphere at such gatherings. Those old guys, nearly my age, still have lungs, voices and, are able to move their fingers on their instruments! What a great time!

The (eventual) jury soon returned verdicts in Finney’s favor, awarding her $175,000 in non-economic damages and $100,000 in punitive damages.
The DOC’s lawyers demanded a new trial, claiming that the “blanket exclusion” of certain jurors on the basis of their faith, even though they promised to be impartial, “violated the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution and the Equal Protection Clause of the Missouri Constitution, and Article I section 5 of the Missouri Constitution.”
I guess a lawyer has to throw everything at the wall to see what sticks, and I’m not 100% convinced that the religious jurors couldn’t have been partial, but that doesn’t justify a new trial. Maybe it justifies a civil lawsuit against the “discriminating” attorney, but the trial had a jury. A proper trial outcome didn’t depend on those specific jurors.

Sure would be nice if ONE R pol went to the authorities to say they were being manipulated at the earliest stages of being compromised. But they are utter cowards, and it just isn’t in their DNA to do the adult thing.

Possibly, but I recall an episode in the WWII Japanese internment. One of the people in charge of implementing internment had it pointed out that there had been no acts of sabotage by Japanese Americans, his response was that it essentially proved how dangerous they were.
It may be a rake stomp, but in their minds it will be the FSB planting rakes for them to stomp on, proving that Biden is really a Soviet Russian mole.
