Romney ‘Very Fortunate Indeed’ That Officer Eugene Goodman Directed Him To Safety During Riot | Talking Points Memo

Counterpoint: They are still part of the Republican party.

Officer Goodman is probably too humble, but I hope he allows some enterprising reporter to sit down with him in order to write a long form article about his experiences on that day, as well as a bit of his personal backstory. I’d read that in a heartbeat.

Romney, one of the most ambitious flip-floppers of all time, a man who has gone from giving a state Obamacare to denying a country the same thing, looks like a statesman of Lincolnesque proportions in the rabble of the Republican party.

Which is why the vote must be public. Show the world who they are.

President Biden made a very wise decision, for a number of reasons, not to speak publicly regarding the trial. The audio and video that I saw and heard yesterday was as chilling as any horror movie I’ve seen (not really a fan of that genre), and it spoke for itself. A situation where no comments were necessary.

Romney is a decent man. He reminds me that we CAN admire, work with, and respect those with opposing opinions.

He will be valuable in the new Conservative party. QOP is dead.

And Lee is the “senior” senator, which if the good people of Utah were polled which senator is ________, then who polls better.

I think you’d be correct, but I’m not sure that Romney will live that long to see a return of the GOP.

I think you have a point here. The House GOP caucus was overwhelmingly talking about how terrible it was Liz Cheney voted to impeach. Gaetz swore he had the votes to remove her. And the final vote was something like 120-60 in favor of keeping her, because it was a secret ballot, and more than half of those talking shit about her publicly voted to keep her when they didn’t have to go on the record. I half think that if the Senate had a secret ballow they’d get to 80 votes to convict and then 40 GOP senators would spend a lot of time assuring everyone they were one of the 20 that supported Trump.

You must just be a good hearted person. Good for you, really.

Now, for another possible take, from someone who’s, obviously, rather more mean spirited:

Most of the Republicans in the House and Senate are even worse humans than Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney.

My very dear niece and her family live in Utah, and those old enough to vote think of the world of their senator, but don’t feel the same about the other UT senator. That Romney in particular has a soul shouldn’t come as a surprise.

@sysprog Which sort of echoes your post about the two Utes.

According to Daily Beast, 100+ GOP had a zoom meeting last night about how to wrest the party back from the MFWWNBN.
