This is a Constitutional Issue so Democratic’s should be filing all sorts of lawsuits.
-Article I, Section 8 authorizes Congress “[t]o establish Post Offices and post Roads.” In The Federalist No. 42, James Madison explained: “The power of establishing post roads must, in every view, be a harmless power, and may, perhaps, by judicious management, become productive of great public conveniency.
Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the United States Constitution , known as the Postal Clause or the Postal Power, empowers Congress “To establish Post Offices and Post Roads”.
What’s amazing to me is that Republican senators not up for reelection think that voters will “forget” their current behavior and disloyalty. Voters do not forget. It also shows their contempt for their constituents. Romney seems to be the only one who is acting upon the absolute certainty that no one will want the slightest association with the Moron very soon.
Logical? Yes. Passionate? No. With anger sufficient for the situation? Hell, no. Speaking out with force to draw attention to the crime? Nope. Similar to the weak “concern” of Susan Collins? Yup.
My take on it is that although it’s possible he’s eyeing 2024 there’s more to it and that he actually has some principles, whether I agree with some of his political positions or not.
I’m inclined to discount the 2024 meme since I don’t think the Republican party as a whole is suddenly going to come to its senses if Trump doesn’t get re-elected and that there will be enough yahoos still in power in it to prevent Romney from having any realistic chance of running. Not just because of that but also because even if there is some sort of sea change in the Republican party the fact that he already ran once and lost would be a mark against him and I wouldn’t be surprised if he already knows that.
I believe what we are seeing is a man who declares himself a Republican, but doesn’t speak like the current iteration of the Trumpian Republican. But don’t get too enamored his still someone who believes that 47% of Americans are takers. I don’t remember how his 2012 campaign reached out to POC, or those of us that aren’t religious, or for that matter nor wealthy business owners.
It might be simply that he saw a line beyond which he wouldn’t go. We, or at least I, thought that would be a more widespread thing, and were shocked as they went along with worse and worse abuses, and had to realize that the phenomenon didn’t involve that kind of line-drawing for most of them. But for a small few, it did.
I agree with you. I also believe he is loyal to America -I’ll never question his patriotism -and I welcome him as a “never-Trumper”, but in so many other ways, I’ll always disagree with him. But it’s a disagreement borne of respect, not utter contempt and despisement that I have for almost every other Republican that has fallen in line with Trump.
I won’t ever vote for Mitt, but he’s the sort of opposition I wish we had.
Dems have the GOP on the run here and I do expect Trump will cave before too long. The two things Dems need to squeeze out of this are 1. Restoring mail sorting machines, 2. Implementation of overtime for the 3 week period prior to, and the 1 week period following, e-day.
Overall, I don’t have too many concerns that the postal service won’t be able to handle the volume. They’ve been managing the primaries just fine and the volume level for e-day is far less than Christmas. This is about removing a GOP trick to delay mail delivery at the margins of e-day.
