I would guess that Pompeo’s shout-out from Jerusalem is less about appealing to the conservative minority of Jews, and more about trying to limit attrition among evangelicals.
And the median evangelical’s support for Israel has jack-all to do with liking Jews, or even with not looking down on Jews.
Many evangelicals see the return of Jews to the Holy Land as part of the necessary predicate to Armageddon and the long-awaited rapture. Any Jews who haven’t accepted Christ by then will burn up along with the rest of the sinners.
We Hebrews will be not-so-tragic collateral damage in their rapture.
