You’re misreading me. I’m not saying he shouldn’t stick to it. I’m saying he should emphasize the idea of following science. Not open with saying, I’ll shut the country down. It’s a bad soundbite.
And Cuomo is clear when he talks about these things. I live in NY and listened to him enough to know that his mantra is science, science, science. Biden needs to use the same approach.
So, CoRonna, how about the 1000+ people who continue their lives by dying every day? In mid-April, both daily infections and daily deaths began to decline. Every infection and every death that occured since that time, and every infection and every death that occurs until we get back to that same condition, is on your boy. So just STFU.
Biden has to hammer the point that his plan is for a short term but effective shutdown, the kind that Trump lacked the courage to mandate, for the sake of the economy to return to normal in a way that Trump’s botched re-opening did not.
It is a fairly obvious point to those of us who keep up with the news, but I think it is important for two reasons. This disinformation on the GOP’s part will have two effects: 1) driving up Biden’s negatives going into the election, and 2) sabotaging Biden’s ability to promote public health measures after the election.
It is getting clearer that the Trumpists are positioning themselves to promote public opposition to any public health measures as a perverse kind of “civil disobedience” if Biden prevails. And if 30% of the population doesn’t take any such measures because freedom, we are all in deep trouble no matter the outcome of the election.
The GOP convention: a week-long exercise in creative story-telling, aka lies, whoppers, falsehoods, BS, libel, slander, character assassination, name-calling, blame-shifting, fantasy, paranoia, prejudice, etc. etc. etc.
Not to mention daily doses of the Apprentice’s Orange Delight leading the way, while glowing in the glory of 300 adoring handpicked acolytes, aka COVID victims…
Let’s all remember to greet him and his collaborators on November 3 with a hearty cheer of “You’re Fired!”
“McDaniel on Sunday ripped Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden while insisting that the 300-something people gathering in Charlotte, North Carolina for the GOP’s convention this week are protected from COVID-19.”
This is what bothers me. 30% of the population is indeed that stupid and at this point no amount of painfully obvious data is gonna change their minds. They have swallowed the idea that “trump’s no politician and lookit…he’s a successful titan of business!” That he has faced bankruptcy 6 times and driven casinos and other business ventures into the ground and now it’s happening to the whole goddamned country does not enter their minds…
This is a good approach, but that takes the kind of explanation that Cuomo does in his talks, careful precise this is how it will work. Biden just blurted out I’ll shut the country down. I saw the the moment. I don’t say it’s not fixable but he’ll need to make some more nuanced statements as time goes by.
It’s not that I’m not feeling a lot of Biden love right now. It’s just that a media mistake is a media mistake. That’s all. I’m with Biden all the way about a shutdown, I’d say just do it. But the whole votership of this country isn’t me.
