Republicans Remind Everyone That Number of Supreme Court Justices Is Not in Constitution Amid signs Democrats may be more seriously mulling the possibility of some kind of Supreme Court reform, Republicans put forward an effort to set the number of justices at nine. I’m not sure it worked out exactly the way they hoped. As…
Needing a 2/3 majority to pass, Rs had to know this was a futile exercise.
ETA Picture of Cat taken by Kennedy Center.
“There shall be exactly nine Supreme Court Justices, unless a majority of them are liberals, in which case the Federalist Society will appoint sufficient Justices to ensure a conservative majority.”
Assuming Trump’s unconstitutional tariffs and war against Iran are still occurring, and further assuming Democrats take at least one house of Congress, the first 2 bills introduced on January 3, 2027 should be:
- A declaration of war against Iran; and
- Trump’s tariffs.
Assuming both votes fail (as intended), Democrats should file in federal court for an emergency injunction to stop both. No more weakness; no more waiting; no more letters; and no more hand wringing. Just do it.
Are you sure that photo is by the Kennedy Center in DC.
May have been a tongue-in-cheek caption. Google Lens says it’s a generic photo used on for-sale sites, and the background sure ain’t DC.
That is a straight up crime under the computer fraud and abuse act. Unauthorized use and bypassing access controls of those websites. And where did these people get our SSNs? That is also a violation of the privacy act.
Edit: This is also covered in the NYT article:
Some of these public-facing voter look-up sites are intended only for use by the voter. In Florida, the voter status portal includes a disclaimer stating “this website is intended for use by a registered voter to determine his or her voter registration and voting status.” In New York, the portal says, “To use this page, you must be a registered voter in the New York State.” In Virginia, users must check a box attesting: “I certify and affirm that the information provided to access my voter registration is my own or I am expressly authorized by the voter to access this information. I understand that it is unlawful to access the record of any other voter.”
If I had to guess the background I would say it is somewhere in the mid west, perhaps eastern Colorado, Kansas or Nebraska.
The US contribution has been upped to $3.6m, which state department officials say will be used to deliver food assistance to feed 10,000 affected households for up to three months, and pay for emergency items such as blankets, mosquito nets and shelter sheets.
However, seasoned humanitarian aid specialists suggest even that contribution is inadequate and say the US response has shrunk to a shadow of its previous capacity by the dismantling of USAID, the country’s main foreign assistance organization, after Donald Trump’s return to the White House last year.
Mike Johnson’s “Porn-O-Meter” is malfunctioning…again.
I think I speak for many of us–we enjoy admiring his belly too.
Regarding the SCOTUS legislation:
Had it passed and gotten through the Senate, what do you wanna bet that any lawsuits put up against the legislation as a violation of the Constitution would have had a 9 - 0 SCOTUS decision in favor of the cap? Those folks aren’t going to give up a good thing.

Blobfish is already president!
Yeah, but then we’ll just end up with even worse, at least until the majority Senate switches.
Wouldn’t these bills require Trump’s signature to become law? Perhaps a legal mess?
As for the declaration of war, wouldn’t many, maybe most Dems refuse to vote for it on the grounds that we have no clear reason to be at war with Iran in the first place? I dunno. I just don’t think your plan is as straightforward as you think.
