Republicans Aren't Exactly Going Out Of Their Way To Defend Gaetz

The House Ethics Committee was going to vote on whether to release a report on its three-year-long investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Friday, Punchbowl News was first to report — just days after Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he was nominating Gaetz as his attorney general. The Florida congressman, who was…

I am cautiously optimistic that enough Senators will persuade TCF to withdraw this nomination. Would be an awful shame to not give the baby its rattle. We’ll see.

GOP Senators are going to stand up to Trump. Wouldn’t even make good fiction.

… some said there was already talk of trying to convince… Gaetz to voluntarily withdraw his name…

Is Gaetz known to have voluntarily pulled out of anything?

The Senate will “sacrifice” one nomination to show they take their role of “Advise and Consent” so, so seriously. (One Senator will say that, probably with a winkled brow.)

But so many choices for the sacrifice. And now…

Gotta wonder if Trump intends to use the investigation halted by DOJ as a sword of damocles over Gaetz, such that anything less that total compliance will result in his removal and arrest? Not that Gaetz needs arm-twisting to be any more MAGA, but still, nice to have an insurance policy if you’re Trump I suppose.

Corruption and rot runs rampant in the Repubs. Sickening.

So it’s a dude with white nationalist symbols tattooed all over his body for Defense Secretary, a lifelong devotee of a super-weird Krishna cult for Director of National Intelligence, and two super-weird drug abusers and sex freaks for Attorney General and Health & Human Services. Plus Marco Rubio.

I don’t know quite how to name this phenomena were are experiencing.
At the top we have the most excellent grifter, cheater, rapist, fraudster that may have ever been elected to public office. Below him he is choosing other grifters, fraudsters, and ne’er-do-wells. And though they may not have as much experience as DonOLD, they have sharper minds and more stamina. I somehow think this is worst than the king’s men all trying to curry the king’s favor. Will we end up with a “night of the long knives”?

One thing we pride ourselves on here is the snark. Also, the pun wars, but understandably, none have felt inclined to indulge lately, myself included.

Oh, wow, Joe. Thanks a bunch for your timeliness.

Well, part of this is how happy the Republican, and just about the entire House of Reps. are to see the back of Gaetz…Other than Ted Cruze in the senate, I do not think there are any Congress people who are too slimy for even the Republicans.
I am sure they would like him to not be confirmed, but I doubt any of them have the backbone to stand up to the vindictiveness of DJT. Seems like Cornyn might want to get a coalition going and present a United Front to the fatass criminal and just say nope, we are not going to be your yes men. The Constitution says we get to investigate and consent.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk puts out a job opening for the Dept of Government Efficiency:

We need super high-IQ small-government revolutionaries willing to work 80+ hours per week on unglamorous cost-cutting. If that’s you, DM this account with your CV. Elon & Vivek will review the top 1% of applicants.

In a separate post, Musk chimed in on the callout, saying: “Indeed, this will be tedious work, make lots of enemies & compensation is zero. What a great deal!

IMO, anyone who works 80 hrs/week for no salary or benefits is, by definition, very low IQ.

Well, he voluntarily pulled out of the House. Of course, that was to save himself from a vote by the House Ethics Committee on whether to release a report on their investigation of him. But maybe he is at least semi-permanently removed from there. (If the nomination goes through, I guess he could always put his hat in the ring to be elected again, if the people who voted for him before really wanted a corrupt sex offender representing them. They probably voted for Donald Trump, too, so maybe they are good with that.)

I remember when GWBush nominated people who were anti-whatever the department was as heads of most of his cabinet. Progress stopped and in most cases went backwards for 8 stinking years. This seems to be a permanent ploy in the Rethug Party.

And Musk is off conducting Foreign Policy with the Iranians now. It may be quaint to even ask, but isn’t there a law against civilians conducting Foreign Policy, and doing it before his chosen administration and state department is even in place?

I agree with Josh and Kate on this one – Trump seems to be more interested in people whose chief ideology is obeisance to him.

The voters in his district would re-elect him in a heartbeat.

Yes there is a law about that…

Also the Logan Act

Not that Musk gives a damn about laws and stuff.
