Every day is a reminder of why I felt sick to my stomach when it was announced Donald Trump had âwonâ the election.
And here I thought the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act prevented this. How silly of me.
From an excellent, timely article
â the president can use the armed forces when there is an interference with federal or state law. The most generalized provision, its precise scope also remains largely untested. The president may use the military to suppress insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination or conspiracy if
(a) it so hinders the execution of law of that State and of the United States and it deprives citizens of constitutional rights (e.g. due process); or (b) it opposes or obstructs the execution of laws or impedes the course of justice. In the event of the deprivation of rights, the State is deemed to have denied its citizens equal protection of laws.â
I am watching a press conference from Minnesota and the authorities, such as the Mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul, are saying there is an outside element to the protesting and some of those people are here to destroy property not protest the death of George Floyd. The Governor said they felt there might be a foreign element to this. The Mayor of St Paul said that not one of the people arrested last night was from the area. They were all coming in from elsewhere. Interesting. That is why the Governor was talking to Esper and DHS.
Fat Nixonâs comingâŚweâre finally on our own.
I think the difference here is the state is considering allowing military police to come in.
sounds like a job for the FBI.
Iâm sure theyâll all be wearing MAGAt hats when they arrive.
Within the article
â But there are two Insurrection Act provisions that can be invoked by the president irrespective of a stateâs request or underlying desiresâ
Only if they buy them from the official vendor. Theyâre still working out the con so we donât know who this will be yet.
Sounds like a job for someone smarter than Trump. But this is oddâŚthey are accusing these people of hiding behind legitimate protestors and using them as human shields. The Governor says it is a deliberate attempt to attack civil society. And he is not Donald Trump. I am old enough to remember the anti war demonstrations. I was in school at the time and I can recall older and more politically extreme agitators using those protests to advance their own goals. The protests were real, but not all of the protestors were. They take advantage of the situation for their own political purposes.
Turns out the brown shirts are wearing black hoodies and gas masks instead of khakis this time around.
âWhen the White House asks for options, someone opens the drawer and pulls them out so to speak,â one unnamed official, who was reportedly on the call in which Trump made his request for deployment options, told the AP.
Is the 3rd choice on this list of options assassination of an Iraqi general?
Speaking of following the Nixon playbook, this thread is interesting:
I was in New Orleans during Katrina when General Russel Honore ordered the troops to stop pointing their weapons at US citizens and offered the wisdom âDonât get stuck on stupid.â Too late for Trump, but you would hope senior leadership in Congress and the DoD would keep this in mind.

Yes, excellent comments. Just one example

Smells like Stephen Miller.
The progression to this point in light of the Donâs catastrophic response to the pandemic seems right on scheduleâŚmartial lawâŚsuspended elections, goons in camo with WMDâŚsuspension of law and order by the DOJâŚAmerica down for the count.
I donât think it is that simpleâŚthis is not just Trump wanting to invade MinnesotaâŚthis is the Democratic leadership in that state considering allowing and even encouraging military police to come into their state because they fear an outside element is trying to deliberately attack their state. I watched that presser and I have never heard anything quite like that.
