Reports: DOJ To Make Extraordinary Reversal On Tough Sentence For Roger Stone | Talking Points Memo

‘The decision to walk back the recommendation was made before President Trump tweeted that it was a “miscarriage of justice.”’
Of course it was. Trump phoned Bill Barr before tweeting.

At this point, I don’t get why Americans are not rioting in the streets.

I mean, wow. First the Trumpist NYPD declares war on Mayor de Blasio for bail reform that is none of their business, now the DOJ is openly operating as instrument that criminalizes innocent opponents of the Republican president and decriminalizes his guilty supporters. It’s all proceeding according to plan–one-party rule in which the local police, federal law enforcement agencies, and customs and border patrol officers are turned against a portion of the American people even as we pay for them with our taxes. This isn’t sustainable. Shocked/savvy media commentary won’t do it. We need someone very visible and very official to call it out and start some kind of campaign of protest. It amazes me that our Washington leaders didn’t call for a day of protest after the president was placed above the law, and the GOP sees that, while our primary candidates argue about fictional legislative scenarios and anachronistic ideals, the coup is speeding up and getting more brazen by the minute.

Not sure why anyone is surprised. I’m positive that Barr has something to do with this.

At the end of the sentencing, I wouldn’t be at all surprised that Stone is a free man, on time served.

“This is an outrage! We should – hold on, I have to take this text…”

Judge Jackson is free to ignore the DoJ recommendation. And the prosecutors are going to have a hard time pretending that this flip-flop isn’t the result of illicit political pressure on Stone’s behalf - which a judge might well view as a reason to enhance the sentence.

More treason from Barr. We have to get rid of all these criminals, and then sentence them to longer than nine years fro their crimes against this country.

Will any career prosecutors now resign in protest?

Is there anything better than being a white man in America? I mean really, it’s just a great place to be.

Does anyone know to what extent the DOJ’s recommendations in a case like this do or do not bind the judge in handing down a sentence?

Oh, Donald, grow a pair and just pardon him already.

Plus Manafort-- that dude is the only other one who didn’t sing on you, and look how he’s been paying the price.

The Iran-Contra coverup required six pardons. This time they’re trying to do it with just one (manafort in november).
