I love the smell of desperation in the morning. It smells like… well my candidate came in 4th over the weekend and is probably feeling pretty desperate today too. But it’s good to smell desperation on a centrist, should have won in a walk, candidate. He might even start taking the base seriously if this keeps up. Or maybe at least stop snapping on them and insulting them when they ask tough questions.
Keep in mind that every losing candidate from each of the respective parties won their nomination. In other words, electability in the primaries and electability in the general are not always the same thing. The fact that Bernie has been able to do as well as he has in these primaries, does not mean he is as electable as Biden in the general. In fact, Bernie has not as of yet beat his own record in 2016. He is just running against more people with a more divided vote. He got 60% in NH last time. He got virtually the same percentage in NV, but with only Hillary running against him 47% was not a big number.
How does he perform next week in South Carolina, with an electorate made up of a majority of black voters who typically have not been in his corner, and then a few days later when 14 states across the nation vote in the closest thing to a national primary that the Democratic Party has? In any case, PP has only 14% support among blacks, and Dem candidates can only gain more support as more primaries are held.
Biden was 1st with black voters in Nevada with 39%. Bernie was second with 27% of the black vote in Nevada. Bernie’s advantage among Hispanic voters dwarfs that difference though.
This.
You can be as snarky as you like, but if those centrists do not show up and vote Bernie will not win. And there are a lot of independent centrists out there who will sit out this election before they vote for Bernie. To some extent the desperation you smell, might be the fear of losing. Losing not only the Presidency, but the Senate and maybe the House too. Bernie has not actually faced a test like that yet. Do not get cocky. It tends to blow up in peoples’ faces.
In Nevada that is true. But Biden is still ahead in Texas. So the advantage with Hispanics might not be that much for Bernie there.
I love that when lefties won’t vote for the Dem candidate they’re traitors to the cause and should be ashamed of being so ‘pure’ or whatever bullshit gets floated. But when ‘centrists’ stay home or vote for republicans, it’s the left’s fault for being so lefty.
Yeah, and it was a pretty reluctant endorsement as well. It’s possible this will hurt Biden more than it will help him.
I highly doubt that any centrists will be staying home in November.
Funny how the label “dumb ignorant fuck” hasn’t hurt the Dotard…
…and when did Jim Clyburn become The Voice (and master) of 43 Million black people in America? I guess I must obey his endorsement-wayyyy out in California- too?
Claimer: I’m not supportive of Sanders one bit. About electability, you have a point but since primary black voters are basically the same ones in the general election, not having strong support from them in the primary could lead to low turnout in the general. Also, Biden’s white support is also free falling, so much for “win back WWC” when he couldn’t get them in IA and NH.
I doubt that very much.
I don’t think he said he was their voice. There is a race on, people do have a right to endorse a candidate who is not Saint Bernie.
Me too, but that’s the scare tactic of the centrists (like the one I was responding to), now that they might actually have to vote for a real liberal. Meanwhile, we lefties have been holding our noses to vote for their shit candidates like Hillary, Gore and Kerry for decades while being blamed for their losses because 2% go third party.
Steyer got exposed in NV. A lot of black voters parked with Steyer will go back to Biden. Biden’s average in SC polls since Jan 1 is 30%. I’ll take the over on Biden’s number.
WTF is with you, TPM?
First it’s…
Clyburn: I’m not endorsing anyone yet"
TPM: “Clyburn won’t endorse Biden even though Biden wants it.”
Then it’s…
Clyburn: “I’m endorsing Biden”
TPM: “Clyburn endorses Biden but his support from the black community is dropping…and look over here at shiny Bernie, look how shiny…”
Are you just consitutionally incapable of letting Biden have a positive headline?
Biden has stronger support from them than other candidates do. At least at this point. I live in Indiana, in 2008 Obama actually won this state by a slim margin. That just shocked the hell out of me. That was the black vote. I doubt if Biden will be able to get those levels of support, but I think he will probably do better than Bernie in that regard.
They’re trying to piss off the Biden bros.
