“Apparently, certain White House staff believed that a live unscripted press appearance by the President in the midst of the Capitol Hill violence could have made the situation worse,” the Jan. 6 Committee wrote in its letter asking Ivanka Trump to cooperate.
Now why would this be? Because he didn’t want them to stop the violence, stop attacking police, and threatening the lives of Congress. He couldn’t convincingly tape a statement asking his supporters -who he invited to come to begin with - to go home because he wanted more carnage.
At various points, the rioters were within a few yards of top congressional leaders. It’ll be interesting to see a timeline and whether Trump was fully aware of that.
It sounds like the Jan 6th committee has this information from multiple sources, and it looks very, very bad for Trump. The fact that he cheered on his supporters as they attacked the Capitol is not going to go over well with anyone who isn’t under his spell. And, his staff can testify that he knew what was happening and did absolutely nothing to stop it…I’m pretty sure that dereliction of his duty is a legal issue as well as a moral one. It probably ends his chance at reelection without cheating…just imagine Biden saying “the Capitol was attacked and you sat and watched it and did nothing to stop it” in the middle of a debate, that would pretty much do him in.
No real surprise though, we’ve known for a while that this happened.
Indeed. One of the ways sociopaths learn to disguise themselves is by parroting acceptable behaviour. They don’t feel what they’re showing, but they know they’re supposed to present a certain way based on prior observations and experiences, so they do. “I’m so sorry your dog died” or “it’s great your kid won the science fair” even though they literally couldn’t care less. Move the situation to something they don’t have a stored response for – maybe someone’s privates got shorn off in a lawnmower accident – and things get weird. A normal person would express sympathy; the sociopath might laugh, even while the victim lay there bloody. Then express surprise when everyone gave them a “wtf?!?” look.
Trump had no prior experience of a mob storming the US government, so he literally didn’t have any frame of reference on how he “should” act. No clue. So no disguise was applied. Why are people looking at me like that? This is awesome!
Oh and I totally agree that his library of stored responses is small because he’s just plain dumb
Haha yeah it’s an effect with multiple causes but not really all that hard to break down.
Never saw it! I know there’s special effects and pills involved. Nah, just saying that infantile, sociopathic psyche would tend not to get that anything outside his thick skull could matter much. Saturday Night Live long ago had one of their pre-done pieces in which you see his point of view as he walks around, and other people are these vague, ghostly presences who can only be seen and heard with difficulty, indistinctly. Great stuff.
“We’re working on it,” she replied, according to the AP. This was Ivanka as she slathered on lipstick, slipped into the tightest fitting dress and push up bra she had, found her stiletto heels, and sauntered into daddy’s office.
I’m sure she was appalled. Their standing in NYC is in bad enough shape, what with invitations expected but not received, texts not answered, and now this!
The President of the United States, watching an act of violence being done in his name, against a building, process, and Constituton he swore an oath to protect …
And he rewinds it and sits silently for hours.
I can’t even, in my wildest dreams, think of how we got to this place.
Trump reportedly reveled in watching the attack in real-time — the then-President’s eyes were glued to the screen as he hit rewind and rewatched certain moments, the AP reported, citing Grisham.
“Look at all of the people fighting for me,” Grisham recalled Trump saying
During the insurrection I wanted to see the insurrectionists mowed down. I know that it is best that it didn’t happen but I can’t help wondering how TDFG would of responded to seeing his followers annihilated.
She was the only one with access to him who realized what the insurrection would do to the Trump family brand, all those licensing deals. He was having too much fun to realize what was happening.
Should have impeached trump for cowardice, more easily proved. “We’re gonna march on down to the Capitol, I’ll be right there with you “. Instead he went home to watch idiots commit felonies for him on his TV. (this is also reason to call trumpism a cult: his followers have surrendered their own abilities to discern right from wrong, truth from falsehood, to a coward).
