Of course, but no conviction, right? Ringleader is free as a bird and still causing trouble, at least on a limited basis.
So, the impact was what?

They got rid of Doug Jones to have Tommy Tuberville represent them. This is not a thoughtful people.
MTG still has not been shown to have played any role in the insurrection, Neither has Boebert. We would do well to stick to the available evidence, not suspicion and surmise.
You blame the lack of conviction on Democratic timidity?
SMDH…Mo Brooks should be arrested not elected.
Brooks gave a fiery speech at the ex-president’s rally in which he told the crowd that “today is the day that American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass.”
This sounds like the political equivalent of “speaking in tongues.”
While I do not wish Mo Brooks personal ill-will, his political and legal fortunes are a different matter. The damage he has caused to the institution where he is a member deserves the firm rebuke of legal suffering, becoming impoverished with attorneys fees, and involuntary confinement.
Once in the early '90s I was chatting with a coworker about an upcoming midterm and suddenly realized she had a system—she simply figured out who was the most “conservative” candidate and voted for that person. I’m pretty sure by now we have tens of millions doing that.
He’s launching his bid at a rally featuring Stephen Miller?
Was Jeffrey Epstein’s corpse not available?
Do even the MAGA-ts particularly like that guy? Even in Alabammy?
He is a self-loathing Jew. They just love those self-loathing types.
Speaking of that …
Brooks will announce the bid during his rally
Which is to be held at … a shooting range.
It’s my vague impression that if you go to hear white supremacists speak a lot, you’ll see a fair number of skinny, ratty, runty, unpleasant-looking people among the speakers. Lewandowski comes to mind. You go to hear what they have to say, because that’s what you like. They do have a lot of beauty contests down there but this is something different.
The term has a sad history. Nowadays it is often used by some Jewish people to describe (for example) a Jewish person who does not automatically support everything done by the state of Israel.
Alan Dershowitz uses it whenever he can’t come up with an honest argument – which happens frequently.
Senator Coach Tuberville was just elected to the Senate in Alabama by 20 points against a well-liked and respected Democratic incumbent who only barely squeaked into office because the Republican special election primary voters liked themselves a Bible-humping child predator. Mo Brooks’ electoral prospects are surely no worse than Senator Coach Tuberville.
Presidential Medal of Freedumb award winner Gym Jordan just won re-election in OH-04 by nearly 40 points. It remains to be seen how Ohio’s new redistricting system will work, but I kind of expect that both sides will be happy cramming enough Republican voters into the borders to continue to make it a safe seat for Jordan.
Candidates matter more in close districts. Being a nutball Trump supporter is a net benefit in districts with big majorities of Republicans, because those voters are themselves nutball Trump supporters.
The message clearly didn’t get out there. Where was the drumbeat daily? Yes, I know - the hearings were televised and we all watched and/or listened to the evidence.
Poll: Majority of Americans support Trump impeachment and conviction - POLITICO
And yet only 56% of Americans wanted the effort to go forward. That was after everyone saw the insurrection. 56%.
There was more support for the ACA and for the COVID recovery act than there was for putting this guy on the spot.
Where was the drumbeat in the media? How, after watching all of that, could only 56% of Americans polled be in favor of keeping that guy out of office?
It’s the Dem message - that’s where the timidity comes from.
Oh, come on. They didn’t explain it well enough? It was a complicated issue? God damn it, this is not their fault. It’s the Republicans’ fault.
We’ll have this discussion when articles of Impeachment are drawn up against Biden.
Alabama, Darwin’s waiting room.
With Roy Cohn… excuse me… Stephen Miller to advise him, what could go wrong?
Cohn’s and now Miller’s playbook just doesn’t work in the current era. Attack, attack, attack, and take them to court. It didn’t work for Trump, ultimately. Oh, and competence as an asset be damned. It’s the culture wars and the communists (socialists) that are the threat. Red baiting? Really? Really. Tiresome, and just not playing in Peoria. Fox News really can’t keep it up, or can they?
I initially thought that Mo Brooks had self-immolated on January 6; but I’m clearly not representative of most Alabama voters.
Brooks will have competition for the Senate seat in the Republican primary. The problem is that those who have the best chance of besting him are smarter than he is, but really no better. Alabama Attorney General John Merrill is possibly a candidate, but there are others.
Stephen Miller has Alabama ties because he worked for Jeff Sessions before he joined the Trump administration.
That’s called surfing the crime wave.
