Could be the same as then, but this time someone saw fit to leak it to the press, while last time everyone ignored it because of all the juicy stuff that was getting dished on the Clinton campaign. By announcing it right off the bat, someone is ensuring that the same shenanigans couldnā€™t be pulled against the Dems a second time, should the DNC be breached as well.

So if the FBI investigates this hack -as they should - and come across some incriminating information involving various Republicans, that could be a big problem for them. Or do they not get access to the actual content?

I would guess whether they get access to the content would depend on whether or not they had some need that would persuade a judge to issue a subpoena. Iā€™m guessing here because l donā€™t know what investigating a hack involves.
