Report: Apple Considers Taking Intel Out Of Macs | Talking Points Memo

Intel may not be inside Apple Macs for very much longer. Apple is mulling switching from using Intel microprocessors in its Mac computers to microchips similar to the ARM processors found in the iPhone and iPad, Bloomberg reported late Monday, citing sources close to the company. The move would be a historic one for Apple, which switched to Intel, the leading PC chip manufacturer, back in 2006. As Bloomberg notes, Intel has struggled to leverage its dominance over the PC market into mobile devices, which require more efficient, light and battery-conserving chips. A test of Intel’s x86 chip in the Motorola Razr M called the chip a “step in the right direction.”
