“Sunday”, my ass! You can throw every other day of the week in there, too. And also a Leap Year or two.
The arrogance of assholery is not necessarily the assholery of arrogance!
And I’m still amazed Rumsfeld isn’t working for Trump yet. But give it time.
OpenSecrets has totals and contributors listed. They have Mitch with 14% in state contributions. Mitch’s largest contributor is an investment company called the Blackstone Group. UPS is his #2. (I’d say I’m using FedEx from now on, but they’re #22.)
eta- whoops, I see now that @tpr beat me to it.
House Judiciary Committee chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said on Sunday that President Donald Trump had “violated the law six ways from Sunday” before and during special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe.
Yes, we know, Jerry. So why the f&*ck don’t you DO something about it?
Sure I can Google it but “Six ways from Sunday”? WTF does this actually mean? If your grandpa didn’t use it or your social group over the years never did either, it means nothing (like for me) . Nadler, how about something like this:
Trump has broken more laws than Capone and Gotti combined.
Or whatever. Make it clear and accessible, not some ancient, never used colloquialism. Ugh.
Russian money through NRA etc is also significant I think.
Huh. Lots of stuff to be frustrated by these days, for sure. Didn’t realize this particular idiom was so obscure. BTW, who the fuck is Capone?
Its not an ancient colloquialism, unless you are implying those of us in our early 60’s are ancient. Heard it all my life and still use it. Makes perfect sense, it means in every possible way.
"One still finds many varieties of the phrase, the number in question might be six, seven, nine or a thousand, the preposition might be from, to or for, but the day referred to in the idiom is always Sunday and the idiom carries the same meaning, which is in all ways possible. "

Emphasis mine.
I’m pretty sure I learned this idiom from movies as a kid. I know for a fact it appears in The Devil’s Advocate, when Pacino is explaining/bragging to Keanu about how his prowess with women is helped by his unassuming appearance.
I suspect you’re right, but Open Secrets doesn’t reveal that (presumably because the contributions were disguised, not because OS refuses to recognize that channel).
I don’t know where the Russian money would appear. I don’t actually know if I’ve ever seen the specifics of the path by which Russian money was disbursed. Perhaps private Russian nationals made big public donations to the NRA, which the NRA then used to offset additional political spending from their lobbying arm. Or maybe the Russian just gave the money to a dark-money PAC that didn’t coordinate* with McConnell’s campaign.
* Narrator: it was very coordinated.
Perhaps someone who has read more of the Mueller report can speak to whether OSC learned much about this.
Nice to know Rep. Nadler agrees with my opinion on trump and “high crimes and misdemeanors”.
Go Nads!
I’ve read Mueller’s report thru three times and it could be the Russian donation trail is redacted. I think the OSC has more info than what is in the report. A good deal was peeled off to SDNY and to others.
Does Dumbledore make it out alive?
Heh heh…
I would not want to have Trump’s future when out of office.
The stupids that are his “base” don’t care how bad things are.
OK, I’m gonna stick my neck out here to say I still don’t think we’re ready for impeachment charges, let alone a trial. But we sure as hell should be ready for FAR more agressive investigations to have already begun. I’m hoping Mueller gets pushed as far as possible with the questions confronting him this week.
In addition to those reasons, I believe that a chunk of the electorate saw that there was no way for Trump to win / no way he should win, and voted for him as a way of showing they were protesting Hilary/The Dems somehow and Sending A Message.
There were enough of those plus all the other thumbs on the scale to put him in, and put us in the soup.
It’s tough to see how a HJC Chairman could make such a statement and not open an impeachment inquiry. It seems like the bare minimum that should be done here. This is the absurdity of Pelosi imposing a moving goalpost threshold of popular support before opening an inquiry, and too many Dems buying into that strategy as somehow sound. It’s not.
Thought experiment: If these same words were uttered by a GOP HJC Chairman regarding a Dem POTUS, does anyone doubt that the GOP would’ve opened an impeachment inquiry on said Dem POTUS? The question answers itself.
So, why don’t you lock his criminal ass up?
