That’s not a critter, it’s a combover. A rethug special combover.
He’s bringing shit from just above his left ear. Needs to talk with Felon 47 on how to this right.

For decades, Russian and Chinese citizens have been treated to government policies designed to elevate “self-sufficiency”, “food independence”, “energy independence” and similar themes about being able to make it on your own. Similar themes are now fashionable in the Trump administration’s rhetoric, and music to the super-prepper ears of Peter Thiel. It’s all baloney, of course. The US is the world’s largest recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI), but Trump’s uncertainty shock has disrupted these inward flows. What has become popular among potential FDI sources for the US are 10-foot poles. Hence today’s spectacle of Trump (and Elon and Sam Atman) going after Saudi FDI even as the institutions that made the US an attractive destination are ground to dust. AI research and data centers can be located anywhere, and digital devices potentially can connect with other digital devices elsewhere. In Finland, which is part of the EU, there is a debate about letting Tiktok set up a large data center, even if the data will be managed from China. Since the data are controlled by the Chinese, the project has largely been marketed to the public as a real estate deal. This real estate aspect of energy-hungry data centers seems particularly tempting to Trump. All the dealing and bribing is on the front end, what happens after 2030 when the annual global energy consumption of such centers is expected to exceed 1 petawatt (1 quadrillion watts) by 2030? Answer, Trump don’t care.

More broadly, Trump is desperate to keep the FDI flowing. Without it, the US faces the same situation as Russia (near 0 inward FDI last year) and China (down 90% from pre-covid times and the lowest level in 33 years last year). Americans under 90 will probably find this “make do” economy of self-sufficiency surprisingly tough, but hey, Victory Gardens!
