Drone’s eye view of a tank falling down going boom. They should put a funeral wreath on those tanks, save themselves some time.
Turkish drone?
That’s what I’ve heard they have. Seems effective enough.
Flame at the end of that video or is that a white flag?
Almost certainly flame. I doubt anyone inside was in any shape to wave a flag.
In my humble opinion even this article does not rehabilitate George Will for me.
Interested in helping Ukraine or wondering what people are doing to help it? This is pretty amazing:
Keeping his head down I would suppose after all he is as isolated as Putin now due ti his calling Putin a genius. Hw many geniuses kill 6 year old girls? Russia is the largest country by land area on the planet. It spans 11 time zones. By train from Sochi to Vladivostok it is more than 6000 miles, Why the hell does Putin need more?
Wait a minute…. @castor_troy isn’t on the list!!!
The fact that you put Bellingcat at the top of your list discredits your entire post. Jesus H Christ, didn’t you learn anything from his constant lies and disinfo in the Middle East. Reporting onsite from his flat in England. Just a tool for MI6 and their constant bullshit.
That’s because I don’t share what I know, I share what other people share and therefore I’m confident is public knowledge.
Nope, from the thread it looks like a Ukrainian-made ATGM (Anti Tank Guided Missle). From one of the replies:
“The Stugna-P is one of Ukraine’s domestically-produced ATGMs. The Javelin flies up in the air and attacks at a downward diagonal angle. The NLAW flies right over the target and fires an explosively formed projectile straight down.”
I enjoy reading all Trump political obits, no matter who writes them. Needless to say, I’ll enjoy reading his real obit that much more.
I am coming in after a day at work, but I know TPM is in the process of going dark until Monday. So, please, consider donating to World Central Kitchen. I have worked with Jose Andres on feeding vets and he is on the ground in Ukraine and Poland feeding refugees. Don’t just rant here. Send money now so he can feed people. Please. https://wck.org/
I was thrilled to see this article. Thank you!!
My first job out of Grad School was working for a really big company – defense contractor, heating and cooling mfr., home appliances, elevators, jet engines, I was hired to manage information resources in one of the biggest, growing subsidiaries. My job entailed mostly overseeing research protocols, laboratory notebooks, highly proprietary technology reports. As well as converting their research library to reflect computer and digital applications and resources. What a wild and wonderful trip.
I was approached by the Strategic Planning group, which was interested in competitive intelligence – what were our competitors doing, who were they cultivating and dealing with for market dominance, who was interested in merging, etc. I started tracking the competitors’ private corporate jets – every month I was able to generate a report on what company was flying where, and when, mapping those visits to events (potential buyouts, mergers, acquisitions, sales, etc.) It was so much fun. And, it was easy when you knew how to use flight tracking services (very new in the the late 70s-early 80s. Then Raygun came in an absolutely destroyed all the fun and the access to information. I truly feel like he was the end of a responsible, and responsive government. It has been downhill from there, particularly for the Republican Party. Piss on Raygun’s grave. Then go from there.
I want to thank @mattshuham as well. It was a wonderful time of my life, and I am so glad that others are still so involved. I am also thrilled at hearing about the old-time short wave communication channels are being used in this war. In the 1980s and 1990s Dr. Hatmama and I were in touch with the programming of BBC affiliates all over the world, particularly India, via short wave radio.
Mama’s Hat is also tipped to Ham operators everywhere!
Great article –
10 days and Putin still hasn’t come to his senses. The man is bonkers. Paranoid bonkers. Biggest country by land area and he wants more.
He’s fucking insane and I hope we see tomorrow. It’s possible he may lose it completely and push the red button and that’s it. But before then he is gonna go after Lithuania to create a corridor to Kaliningrad on the Baltic. Watch him try. I hope he doesn’t but he said he was gonna do it. He thinks NATO will not react.
Last night it was a nuke power station. What atrocity will be next?
I read briefly, early in the invasion of Ukraine, about a Ukraine request for International health aid for “morning after” pills (either levonorgestrel (Plan B One-Step, Aftera, others) or ulipristal acetate. And for medical abortifacients (mifepristone-misoprostol.) It really caught my attention, but I did not know if this was real or if it was “fake news.” If this is the truth, I am doubling-down in my fury of the brutal Russian de-humanizing of women using rape, including gang rape, routinely, as a weapon of war.
Putin was his friend like Master was a friend to slave. Sad little man tries to rewrite history and fails.
Putin and for that matter trump… the both of them are not the sort of people I would want as friends or even as acquaintances. In neolithic times people like these were driven out of the tribe to fend for themselves alone in a very cruel and unforgiving world. One is out of power. The other will be I hope.
Well, we may have a tragedy shaping up, but I don’t see a world-ending event. The Russian High Command has to realize, given how good American intelligence has been over the past few weeks, that we probably also know exactly where Putin is right now. A low yield nuke within x miles would take him out, along with anyone standing nearby and that would likely end the exchange.
And no, I am NOT advocating for this, just gaming out the likely series of steps if the Russian military leadership doesn’t start some serious housecleaning soon. The alternative is probably something like a miraculous flood of trained “volunteers” flooding into Ukraine, carrying a collection of high tech arms and ammo.
As I’ve indicated elsewhere over the past couple of days - while it’s true that Ukraine has a third of the population of Russia, the Russians have thousands of miles of borders with other potentially hostile states, they’re undergoing crushing economic sanctions and underneath it all, the Russian population isn’t actually aboard for all this shit.
As my mother’s Scottish family clan would tell us - “Hold Fast!”. And as my mother used to add - “This, too, shall pass…”
