The ones who should be looking incompetent are the GOP since they aren’t even pretending that they can govern at this point. They’re just sitting there making the occasional grandstanding speech. When half of Congress won’t even engage on the business they were elected to do, that should be the story and the target of ridicule and accusations of incompetence, not the 50% who are struggling to get things done with no margins.

Right, but right now we got nothing. And if you look at this from the outside, just Joe Blow watching the Nightly news on teevee, or hearing it on his radio, just the news part regardless of the radio station, it’s the Democrats that did not get these bills done, and the longer it goes on the stupider the Democrats look. Even if it’s only two stupid moronic bought slimy assholes out of 80 million Democrats, it’s still going to be labeled as the Democrats didn’t get it done, and Joe’s going to this summit with you know what in his hand.

I mean, really, what we need isn’t that complicated. We need to get vaccinated, we need to improve our decrepit infrastructure so we can generate power much more efficiently and with less greenhouse gases, we need to expand the social infrastructure so people can work without spending all their money on child care and health care and student loan debt because the states stopped funding their colleges because of Reagan and his manipulators. We need to have billionaires pay their fair share. And we need to make sure we can vote and have our votes fairly represent our communities.
And we need to hold trump and his ilk accountable for their treason, but that’s not part of the bills at hand, but needs doin.

Jayapal went back to her homebase later in the day. Here is what she said: “There are too many no votes for the vote to pass today, We do need the text and we do need the vote on both bills in the House at the same time."
Note this: No vote by the “progressives” on the infrastructure bill until they vote on the BBB bill. Anything else that folks here think is their position is wrong. Full stop.

I think the other half of it is that you can’t really have a horserace when half the horses don’t even leave the starting line. They don’t know how to report on that, so they have to obsess over the horses that are moving, even if the ones absent from the scene should be the ones under the microscope.
Investigative reporting is expensive and doesn’t bring in lots of money so they want everything to be able to fit into a “he said, she said” framework and call it a day. When it won’t, they tend to ignore it because they don’t know what they should be doing instead nowadays.

You also need several million fellow citizens to go along with you. Good luck on that one. Manchin and Sinema obviously feel it is politically safe for them to make the decisions they make and unfortunately, they may be right. We don’t have enough Americans who want to get vaccinated or save the planet or help themselves with something like free community college or make corporations and billionaires pay their fair share.
