Thanks for this, and particularly for providing examples! The constant comparing of European and parliamentary elections, where they have party voting and often proportional representation with US single representative, district based, first past the post voting for each and every office is like comparing apples to … a bunch of grapes. Or one of those giant banana bunch-things (filled with spiders) that are cut down from the tree.
Folks advocating “hand counting” are just
- ignorant
- willfully stupid
- trying to con you because they know better
The Republican Party has cornered the market on all these categories.

Horrifyingly, “Operation Epstein Fury” may provide the basis for such an “emergency”. I hear the price of gasoline is up several cents. Could get worse!!
A note in passing: where I live, the price at the neighborhood gas stations often changes by 40-60 cents overnight. Up and down. Has been doing this for years; who knows why.

As a general rule (and opportunistic profiteering aside), gas stations price their wares based on what they expect it’s going to cost them to buy the next tankerful of fuel, not what it cost to aquire the stuff that’s already on site. So if there’s a production hiccup at a local refinery, or a corrupt evil moron decides to blow up the entire Middle East, or whatever, that can show up very quickly in the price at the pump.
