I loved Lord of the Flies when I had to read it. I saw it as a brilliant comment on the natural state of man. Or, rather, I had a brilliant 11th grade teacher who helped us see it that way.
Those boys are little pricks, the equivalent of the unthinking yahoos who parade with guns now, and Piggy is the rational intellect that is our only hope. There’s a reason he wears glasses and the little pricks break his specs.

OT The compulsion to accept nearly all RWNJ talking points by Trumpers seems to lead to the inescapable conclusion that we are dealing with the WILL TO BELIEVE…which only requires a few polysyllabic words and legal-sounding terms to get them to want to give their lives for and to Trump **

Actually, according to the data, there’s a significant uptick in the number of unmaskings (up to 100% increase) after this administration takes power. It seems to be worthwhile project to review those and their justifications.
