right now both the crowds and the police are sort of operating within “civil” unrest protocol…
all that is needed is for some idiots to leathly spray live hollowpoint ammo through a crowd and kill 40-50 people & it will trigger numerous retaliations … and it will be martial law time.
I wasn’t watching this station, but Oklahomans I respect on Twitter reported yesterday that , one of the local stations allowed their helicopter pilot to editorialize about what he thought was going on, which included his deduction (from the air, mind you) that the crowd was ANTIFA agitators, and that they were dressed for confrontation, including bringing supplies in their backpacks. I guess the idea of bringing some bottled water and a snack to a demonstration hadn’t occurred to him. He also is said to have labeled a flag that he saw, a red flag with a “46” in the center, as a “communist” flag, although it is actually the first flag of the state of Oklahoma. I’m sure he will claim that he was talking about a hammer and sickle flag, but since he had already decided that Oklahomans engaged in peaceful assembly were all ANTIFA, I’m not all that convinced.
As I said before, I wasn’t watching them (and will never watch their news again if I can help it), but I’m disgusted.

oh … if given the power they might manage to be evil and oppressive - but it would be very different …they could intentionally be immoral… but they would be knowing every second that they were being immoral… Trump is delusional and rather amoral … all evil but Trump is never encumbered by feelings of guilt cause he doesn’t care.

I’ve forgotten which city this was in but there was a cop walking towards protestors with gun pointed towards them. Think he got called off by a supervisor. Pretty scary.

I do not understand the national protests in this instance. The officer has been charged with murder. The other three are probably going to be charged as well. Four officers involved have been fired. So far the public response seems positive. Would somebody explain to me why this has gone national?
Yesterday in Oakland, when they got to the police line, protesters took a knee.
The cops did, too.

Because there is a national body of people who have been pushed to the breaking point with constant, life-threatening pressure. Like any system under stress, the first crack spreads.

trump, covid, lockdowns and job losses. Tons of pent-up anger that’s been growing for years, everyone locked down for the last two months, millions out of work, failed president.

You know this isn’t just a Minneapolis problem. Plus the disproportionate impact of covid-19 diagnoses and deaths among African Americans. Add in 40 million unemployed, Trump, and the underbelly of capitalism and all the ugliness it represents.

That’s a really interesting angle. Makes sense too, Powers That Be being being reminded how important police are, tied in with millions in lost city and state revenue. Problem is, police departments themselves are partly responsible for the chaos, property damage, violence and lost revenue. Fucked up.

Yes, and creates a telling contrast to the astroturfed ‘Reopen’ protests, where they had to import marchers to get their numbers into the hundreds.
I note, also, that the truly aggrieved don’t need to flaunt their right to open carry to help get their ‘message’ across.
Methinks it says something about where the country’s sentiments lie.

It is worth noting that as people are describing the rioting and looting as “rage boiling over”, a large proportion of the destruction and stealing is being done by white people, frequently over the objection of black people in the protest. How much of that is agents provocateurs vs. antifa-type dipshits cosplaying revolution, and how much the real proportion is being distorted by videos of them being promoted on social media, I don’t know. But the fact that there’s no discernable difference between the left and right extremists gives me zero sympathy for the former.

Not to mention, many communities have suffered some injustice at the hands of their expensive criminal justice systems.
