In some ways, the filing suggests, Smith appears to regard Trump’s attempt to block his 2020 loss as him running a premeditated playbook — one he would have put into action had he lost to Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Of course. Lest we forget, in the run-up to election night in 2016, Trump was ranting over and over how the election was “rigged” and that was going to be the only way he could have lost.

The Brooks Brothers riot was the first Republican theft of an election through violence (both real and implicit), and it worked. Some of us forget that the 5-4 election of Bush on ridiculously specious legal grounds was driven by the fear of 100 Timothy McVeighs if Republicans were denied their EC victory, Gore’s uncontestable popular vote margin be damned. It’s become the model for everything the Republicans have done since, once they realized that they could win without getting more votes. It has now escalated to the point that no one cares about plausible deniability. We will see armed militia takeovers of vote-counting centers in 2024. Count on it.

Of course not, most of it has long been publicly reported. What’s a bit of a surprise is that they’re saying they intend to use it all at trial in order to support the charges over the J6 conspiracy, since none of this is charged conduct. But the prosecution is correct that this evidence all helps establish the existence, intent, and methods of the J6 conspiracy.

The GOP has undermined public education for decades, creating a couple generations lacking critical thinking skills and a basic knowledge of civics. This coup has been in the works since the American Fascists© (Ford, Disney, Kennedy, etc.) lost the public debate to Woodie Guthrie and the US entered WWII on the side of the Allies.
