It strikes me that many of these political “sausage making”stories only make sense after the fact. There’s a lot of CYA that goes on - so stories about unnamed “moderate” etc are leaked to create a narrative that isnt necessarily all that true. But it gives Manchin etc “moderate” credibility back home.
The bosses at Soros (they´re all bosses) will use it all for lavish East and West Coast liberal craft brewed AIPA`s. It will trickle down to brewers and barley and hops farmers across this great country. What could be more American? Besides the Soros clan are thirsty after funding all the antifa infiltrations of the Proud Boys and other successful false flag operations.
This is one of the disingenuous arguments the ever-moronic Susan Sarandon has recently spewed.
Joe Biden said before the election that Americans should get a $2,000 stimulus payment. The Covid Relief Act passed in late December sent a check for $600 to Americans in January. The $1,400 current forthcoming stimulus payment makes up the difference to Biden’s promise. To criticize President Biden for some purported “default on his promise” is just deceitful. Americans will be getting the $2,000 that Biden promised during the campaign, for which Republicans were only willing to pay $600.
It gets tedious arguing common sense with the perpetually obtuse.
TPM Board members:
Beware the “Karl W. Lewis Foundation” and @scottnatlanta scam “charities”.
As is so typical these days, when a legitimate foundation is set up, alternatives claiming to be the original or some improved version quickly pop up across the intertubes.
Accept nothing less than the original, @castor_troy BeerFundMe™.
Stuff it! Folks that live paycheck to paycheck count every penny.

I’ve totally come around to keeping the guidelines the same and sending to everyone again, so this is good news. And good politics. Manchin gets to keep his credibility, and Biden appears reasonable and wise, while the people get their checks. Everyone wins.
You can argue that the payment should have been more, but you can’t make a statement that Biden is going back on a promise and not be expected to be called out for being disingenuous.
I’m not disagreeing that some deserve more financial assistance. I’m just unwilling to accept misstatements of fact as gospel.
There was never a hard cut-off. The amount tapers linearly
The perfect charity for folks who just want to see their money pissed away.
You should go look at the historical record. Biden said that stuff in advance of the checks. He was never promising an additional $2K on top of the second check, so the $1400 is exactly in line with his promise, by making the total of the second round $2K.
Not true. Some will be spent to keep the space lasers in orbit.
Miscellany: The short-changing of cancer.
It is stupid to be suggesting anyone who got the last 2 checks shouldn’t get this one. That’s a very quick way to prove that Trump cares about them more than Biden does.
Not necessarily. Since they’ve approved the topline budget impact, these sorts of negotiations are quite normal. More money in the checks means less money for something else, which may or may not be more important to you.
All of the focus on the checks themselves is distracting from the key question of what the checks are offsetting elsewhere.
OT, maybe, but as for inflation, Paul Krugman says – I’m paraphrasing – it is not going to be a problem.
I thought they just hacked the space lasers of the Guardians of the Force.
Happy Manchin’s plan for Democrats to lose the next election failed.
Miscellany 2. Own the hyperbole! Own it! I would have.
Yes, some like to say that most of the people who die of Covid might have died of other conditions. I suppose eventually they would have, but then we could say that since we all will die of something in the end, let’s just shut all the hospitals down…
The simple truth is that there have been a large number of excess deaths since March 2020, something way beyond what has been seen in any prior year
